Not bad. I think I'm going to watch The Kid With A Bike within the next couple of days.

Here's hoping! I've been wanting to get this for a long while now, after hearing a lot of praise for it from a Russian film professor of mine a while back and several other classmates, but other Criterion BDs kept distracting me.

Speaking of my signature, I probably should update that soon. I haven't updated that in almost a year.

I am new to collecting criterion additions so sorry if my list is not quite up to snuff. These are all blind buys for me.

YOJIMBO/SANJURO
LE SAMOURAÏ
THE SAMURAI TRILOGY
LE CERCLE ROUGE
ARMY OF SHADOWS
SOLARIS
THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER
THE WAGES OF FEAR

For criterion what I owned prior tot his sale was Seven Samurai, The Following, Godzilla, Brazil, Benjamin Button and Harakiri

Not a bad little haul.

Le Samourai has been rumored at a Blu-ray upgrade this year, so you may end up having a duplicate

I added Ivan's Childhood to Netflix since everyone is talking about buying it. Maybe I'll get it next round if it is so good.

No worries. I've kept my old DVD copies of Melville's Army of Shadows and Le Cercle Rouge even after upgrading them to Blu-ray. I figure that, if something bad happens, I'll at least have backup copies of my all-time favorite movies. I'll be keeping my Le Samourai DVD copy as well when the Blu-ray comes out, of course.

I'm heavily considering placing another order tomorrow for these DVDs:

Insomnia (1997)
L'Eclisse
The Hit
Le deuxieme souffle
Le doulos

I really want to add these to my collection, but would kick myself down the road if they were upgraded.

I watched it last week and I thought it was alright. I liked the Russian accents in particular. The film does a good job at exploring the hazardous effects of war, especially among children, but it wasn't my favorite release by far from the Collection.

I kind of wish I had added the Chantal Akerman Eclipse set to my order. I've been eying it for months now.

Thinking about pulling the trigger on the following:
Rashomon
High and Low
Diabolique
Harakiri

Thoughts? Is 3 Colors Trilogy worth a shot? Thanks, folks!

I watched Rashomon last night and I enjoyed it. I watched Diabolique the night before and I liked it as well.

Three Colors is absolutely fantastic. A masterpiece.

Ordered right after the sale went up a few hours ago.

Sansho The Bailiff
The Organizer
The Ballad of Narayama
Harold & Maude
The Man Who Knew Too Much

I'll save Trilogy of Life, the David Lean set, and upgrades of Brazil and Ivan's Childhood for future sales.

Just watched Harakiri last night for the first time. It was excellent. I loved it very much. I'd say buy for sure on that one. Roshomon I need to see again. I wasn't fond of it the first time I saw it, but everybody considers that to be one of the all time greats, so i'm most likely wrong on that one .

This has happen to me with a few movies though at the moment I am more interested in buying the ones I don't have first although I made an exception for Brazil.

I wonder how Criterion chooses what to put out as upgrades on BD? Would it be sales figures that cause them to select certain movies and upgrade them?

I only own a couple dozen Criterion blu-rays (not even), but those are all amongst them. All well worth it, if you like the kinds of things I like. Especially Harakiri.

Anyway, didn't know about the sale, just picked up Sansho the Bailiff from HMV. Which is cool, I doubt I would save any money shipping to Canada, and there's not much else I really really want (and it's on backorder now anyway). And HMV had it for $35 - Amazon prices, which is pretty rad, normally it's like $42 there for Criterions. But yeah, I'm really excited to watch this movie again.

Also, AK100 is going OOP. Hopefully that will mean a standalone Madadayo blu-ray shortly, since it's no longer incentivising people fork out for the box-set. Haven't seen that one yet, but I will blind-buy anything Kurosawa at this point.
