Nice, got M, Wages of Fear and 12 Angry Men. Rosemary's Baby and The Seventh Seal can wait for the next sale!

Most of my Criterion purchases have been blind-buys, but only after doing my homework and reading up on the reviews to see if they suit my tastes. A friend got me into Akira Kurosawa's work years ago, and that's how I discovered the Criterion Collection. I moved from there into French New Wave films and such.

There are several Criterion films that I had seen through other sources first (The Thin Red Line, The Vanishing, The Night of the Hunter, Solaris, etc.), but many of the others are usually safe bets if the synopsis is appealing to me.

That said, I have no desire to purchase each and every Criterion title, because there are quite a few that simply do not intrigue me.

I hoping that this will be the next Bresson film released by criterion:

Went ahead and blind-bought Leon Morin, Priest today... Expect it to be nothing short of fantastic.

Great choice! I don't revisit this one as often as other Melville films, but it's still quite incredible, and it gets better with each viewing. It's one of the more cerebral films in my collection, and I love the back-and-forth discussions on religion in the story.

There are a handful of Kurosawa films that I did not really get into. The Lower Depths and Dodes'ka-den are two in particular that did not quicken my pulse.

I'm mesmerized by most of his works, though.

Sounds great, figured I couldn't go wrong with Belmondo & Melville. I was also very close to picking up le doulos and le deuxieme souffle, but decided to wait until the next sale.

I might of said this many times, but I will say it again. Criterion needs to release Le Samourai or Bob Le Flambeur next.

These are my two favorite Melville films and probably his greatest works.

[Show spoiler]Moral of the story: if you are in a winning streak don't stop. I love the ending, making it the best heist movie ever.

One of the few Kubrick films I have not seen. I have not seen Rififi (one of the great heist films) either. The movie is more about the character Bob than the heist. I don't want to give ending away, calling Bob Le Flambeur the greatest heist film is a subtly sarcastic comment. Watch the film, you will understand my sarcasm.

The "Clock" on their website said there was over 22 hours remaining of the 24 hour flash sale when I got on.... On the Waterfront was "In Stock" and by the time I added the rest of my titles, and got to check-out, it was back-ordered

After much wracking of the brain, I finally placed an order for the current Criterion flash sale. You might remember that a few weeks ago, I asked for recommendations on Criterion blurays that might be inoffensive or suitable for an elderly person. So I used this sale to try and take care of a few of those. I ended up ordering:

Charade (The previews looked great!)
The Red Shoes (I wasn't sure of this one, but with the glowing recommendations I saw, I thought "why not?")
Stagecoach (I really wanted this one for myself as well. )
Black Narcissus (This could be iffy too, but the person it's for is very religious, so I thought maybe it would hit a chord. Plus I've heard that the cinematography is gorgeous).

Thanks again to those that gave me a few ideas to go off of. (Gotta run now).

I can see how it would be fantastic when it was released given the structure of the movie, but it's completely unremarkable in 2013. I feel that I wasted $21.19 on it. I'd get rid of it, but I have some friends who admire and adore foreign films, so I'll let them borrow it.

If you are going to blatantly criticize Kurosawa, you can at least spell the title correctly. I would also recommend for you to try to elaborate your critic a little better. To describe a film as "boring" is very shallow.

I don't think they can release Bob as it is OOP.

Wasn't "I Married A Witch" hinted at by Criterion?

I'm browsing TCM and I see a couple Chaplin films, that film, Thief Of Baghdad, and a few others

Setting the DVR!

Awesome! I haven't seen my Cohen Media blu ray of the original Thief of Bagdad, though.
