got my order today also from the Flash sale, and am just stunned that after 5 years they STILL have copies of The 400 Blows in the original dented to hell and back paper-sh^$t version. I really thought I would finally get a "case" version.
at this point I officially give up. ![]() |

There's a horse killed on screen in Andrei Rublev and shockingly the cow on fire was covered in asbestos and was not harmed.
Wasn't the Apocalypse Now slaughter scene based on the ending of Eisenstein's "Strike!"? |

Anyway, it's neither here nor there. Watched Sansho the Bailiff the other night and thought it was fantastic. I was in a bit of a melancholy mood though so that may have helped. Definitely not a sunny afternoon film |

I see that the Alfred Hitchcock box set is for sale again at the top of this page. I'm going to hold out for an even lower price, though. |

Looking forward to enjoying the five-hour-plus television version of Fanny and Alexander tomorrow. It's going to be a cold day here in Atlanta, so there will be nothing better to do after my morning training run.
I've heard that this looks infinitely better on Blu-ray than it did with my old DVD. I like the Criterion Blu-rays, because I can stop the movie, then resume watching where I left off when I return. I was spoiled by that when I watched a bunch of Criterions last week. When I was watching the Universal Monsters movies this week, I missed this feature. I mean, I prefer to watch an entire movie without stopping, but sometimes real life intervenes, and it's nice to be able to pick up where I left off. Last night I watched The Lion in Winter on TCM for the umpteenth time. Now there's a film that's a natural for the Criterion treatment. Great film, great stars, great acting, epic story, etc. I guess the bad news is that it's a Studio Canal property and that Criterion might not be an option.

In regards of the flash sale, I too haven't received any confirmation e-mail, yet have been charged in full.
And despite being told that the CDN dollar is slightly above parity, that never seems to be true when ordering stuff online =( . |

I was just browsing Bestbuy.com and saw they had Breathless for $25.99 and Senso for $24.99, and with $20 worth in Rewards to use I had to pick them up!
![]() I netflixed the dvd of Senso a couple of years ago, and thought it was deliriously sumptuous and one of the most visually stunning films I've seen. LOVE Visconti. I hope to upgrade The Leopard soon, and Rocco and His Brothers is my most desired title to enter the Criterion Collection. Breathless is one of three Godard films I've seen that I like. The other two being Vivre sa vie and Pierrot le fou. I own the latter on dvd, but ugh, really wish I picked up the blu-ray before it went OOP. |

Agreed, but I wouldn't assume they'd release it solo, without the other two films in the "trilogy". I expect an upgrade, but as a 3-film collection eventually. |

Does anyone know how often Criterion does their flash sales? Every six months? Every quarter? Every month (please!!!)? I managed to pick up five titles that I've been wanting for some time: (by spine number)
M (arguably the best proto-noir) Videodrome (is this a digi-pack, or does it still have the videocassette case that comes inside the slipcase? I sold my Criterion DVD copy) The Night of the Hunter (hands-down one of the greatest noirs of the classic period; an absolute landmark in American Expressionism) Sweet Smell of Success (Lancaster and Curtis have never been so good) The Game (Fincher's best neo-noir, behind Se7en) And to add my .02 to the animal on/off-screen deaths, the slaughtering of the caribou in Apocalypse Now, though terrifyingly brutal, becomes, to me, so central to the themes of the film; the graphic back-and-forth editing of that sacrifice and [Show spoiler] is paramount to "the horror" (pun slightly intended) and totality of war.

Videodrome has a plastic "videotape" case inside the cardboard sleeve, just like the old DVD, except smaller. Looks like a great package, and I want to upgrade my DVD soon (since I sold it last month).
