Ok here I go,

Since you think "Ben Button" is the one of the best movies it's going to be a little hard, but no subtitles there's a few:

"The Last Emperor" is a fantastic film. Mostly English with some Chinese, or Mandarin, subtitles.

"Bottle Rocket" is one of my personal favorites. Just overall a great job by Wes Anderson and Criterion.

"The Third Man" is an English movie but with subtitles. It's about an American who goes to Vienna to investigate an associate's murder. Some subtitles but nothing straining. If you can get a hold of a copy of this OOP title then you're golden.

Another of my personal favorites "Paris, Texas". Love everything about it. Not one single subtitled scene. Great story, and good acting.

"Hunger", Irish, came out this month, about a man in an IRA prison who starves himself in protest. Very graphic, but astoundingly acted and a very powerful film.

"Days Of Heaven" will be out March 23. Terrence Malick is a well known Director and this one is not to be missed.

Honestly though, you are really limiting yourself if you refuse to watch subtitled films in the collection. Just take a look at some of the amazing reviews on the original post of this thread and you'll see.

In a way that's reassuring but several critically praised films on this site that I watched rather than bought were Aviator and Gangs of New York and I really didn't enjoy those.

does any1 know if Criterion (or any other distributor) has rights to any of the other Masters of Cinema titles outside of M? i know M is coming in May.

i'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to buy City Girl and Sunrise from Criterion. i know they're both region free from amazon.co.uk... but still...

I pretty sure that Fox actually owns the US rights to these, as they had released them as part of the Murnau, Borzage Fox set last year. The chances of Criterion getting either of these would seem extremely slim, and the Masters Of Cinema releases are spectacular, so I would definitely go that route if I were you. ( I do own both of them, and love them, BTW.)

Historical accuracy aside..... It was a greatly constructed film...... I am personally very pleased when a mainstream actor has English as his second language...... it typically brings more foreign language films to the U.S. public's attention.....

I wish there were more high-profile Soviet actors/actresses

There's sort of a finesse to watching foriegn films. Letters From iwo Jima made me love Ken Watanabe as a fantastic actor.

As far as the MOC titles are concerned, I'd consider each disc's region status in determing whether it'll be released elsewhere or not.

"For All Mankind" and "M" are the only region-B coded blu-rays MOC has released so far and both of them are also Criterion blu-rays.

"Mad Detective" is a region-free MOC but there is also region-free Hong Kong blu-ray release from Mei-Ah.

"Soul Power" is region-free from MOC, but now there's also the region-free Sony release.

So, the simple answer is we can't be too sure.

Letters From Iwo Jima is not a foreign film. It was directed by Clint Eastwood.

I emailed Karen at Criterion Collection this morning regarding my replacement cases(7 cases). I placed my order on Jan 14th and have not recieved them yet. She replied an hour ago saying that my replacement cases has been shipped out late jan. She is going to re-send them today. She also sent me a $10 gift card for my trouble. On what should i use this gc?(I would like to buy BD titles) most titles are on sale %20 off and free shipping on orders over $50

Ordered 8 replacement cases on Feb. 6th and got them today. Around two and a half weeks. Not bad. I was prepared to wait up to six weeks before getting antsy. Just five more titles to buy until I have all the BDs they've released (see signature).

Can you drop me a link for this ebay seller if you have a second? I'm always a fan of getting criterion discs for cheap. Thanks!

If you do not mind, let us know the condition in which you receive these films.

Will do, I'm definitely crossing my fingers for "Like New" ones as they were described...

I think it was well made and worth a spot in the collection but it failed to live up to the hype for me. I saw it in the theater and while I really enjoyed it I thought it was trying way too hard to present the story in a detached and cold way. Generally, I love this style and appreciate the realistic take BUT in this case I think it fell flat. It went out of its way to show these different characters in different stories that seemed totally unrelated but we as viewers know from the get go that its all related to organized crime. By portraying most of the characters in a cold way as well it just felt meh to me...

...and the worst part was the title card at the end...as an Italian originally from NY I understand the far reaching effect of Italian and Sicilian crime families in both Europe and the States but when I read the last line it was like, "I know this is true, but I'm supposed to make a connection to mostly street level thugs who live in lower class Naples in cheap apts with little to no characterization to sweeping world wide endeavors like this?".

I liked the film. In fact, Im going to pick it up tomorrow, but it felt like the Wire light- all the realism but none of the charm.

I've ordered about 8 movies from him before.
Most of them are perfect, but my Band of Outsiders did not come with the booklet. And the cover of my 8 1/2 had a gash in it.

Both were listed as "Like New". When I sent him a message about the booklet, he responded "I'll look for it" and haven't heard back for weeks. Oh well. Not too concerned.

I got :

The Hit - 11.99
The Spy Who Came In From The Cold - 11.99
The Ice Storm - 11.99
Hiroshima Mon Amour (brand new) - 17.28
Shadows - 12.49
Scenes From A Marriage - 13.01
Blast of Silence - 15.01
La Haine - 14.28
Cria Cuervos (brand new) - 11.99
Danton - 11.99

Most of them were blind buys, but I had money stored up in my PayPal account from selling, and couldn't pass up some good deals on Criterions.

Awesome. I picked up a copy of The Ice Storm too, as I have had teh old Universal dvd of it laying around, so I couldn't justify spending $20 on it. ($11.99 was better!). And then King Of Kings and Monsters and Madmen.

Sorry to see that 8 1/2, did you contact CC to get a replacement cover? I hope you have better luck with this bunch, and I hope my three come complete as well, as I'm kind of OCD about that (I have replacement cases etc, but I do need the complete artwork and books etc.)

I'm definitely going to have to keep an eye on the new listings... as I'm really hoping that he lists I Fidanzati and Il Posto and La Commare Secca as I would love to get them at a deal.
