Amazon

I ordered The Game back in Dec from Amazon when it was $17.99, forgot all about it because it was the silly season. Anyway, last Friday I'm reviewing orders & noticed it was missing so I called Amazon & told them I never received it. So they credited me back the $17.99 & sent me the movie, which I just received at my job. Didn't even have to go through a song & dance about why it took me so long to report it missing. They also gave me $25 gift card. Now that I think about it, I hope none of my co-workers took the original shipment from my desk.

Anyway, this is my 1st Criterion & probably my last for a long time

I just finished Pale Flower. The film was definitely a good example of how difficult it is to leave one's past behind.

When I started the film, I was really into it. As it progressed, I found it to be a bit slower paced, but the ending is what made the entire film for me. Now that I think back of it, the film did do a good job at showing how Muraki was returned to his old ways.

I'm still waiting for UPS to drop off the new Criterions for today.

Nice.

Be careful with those devils they might ask for your soul next time.

Hope you're right about LotF. I know it's coming but I'm just hoping it's sooner rather than later. La Notte would be great; the missing link in the trilogy.

Not Criterion related, but Warner will release Truffaut's La Nuit américaine (Day For Night) and Polanski's The Fearless Vampire Killers on Blu in France this June. Both titles are up for pre-order at Amazon.fr.

Does Criterion still have the rights to La Strada? It's one I really want, but I'm trying to decide whether I should just snatch up a DVD, or if it's probably coming soon on blu.

Those would be nice. THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE, ERASERHEAD and SCANNERS are my top titles that I'm truly anticipating that are believed to be coming. I understand why some dont care for Wes Anderson but I do like his films. Funny thing is I own of his films only FANTASTIC MR. FOX. I would buy THE LIFE AQUATIC.

Somebody on my Facebook wall was posting these great paintings of the Battle of Trafalgar, and that got me thinking that I'd really love to upgrade my Criterion DVD of That Hamilton Woman to Blu-ray someday.

Maybe, in a perfect world, that will be one of the announcements, but I'm not holding my breath.

If there's one saving grace, it's Cate Blanchett. She's the best thing about Zissou.

Or at least films that are hard to come by and won't be discovered/given a release outside of the label.

Just finished The Blob.

It was a really fun movie. I'm going to have nightmares tonight. I hope The Blob doesn't eat me in my sleep!

I have my preferences just like everybody else but I gotta say, words like deserve and worthy kinda rub me the wrong way.

I mean, I understand what people are driving at and in many (maybe even most) cases I agree.

But is Charade really more worthy than The Game?

Does The Blob deserve to be in the collection where Life Aquatic does not?

I dunno...

Certainly not The Blob or Charade, but films like World on a Wire and Letter Never Sent are surely more deserving than The Game or Life Aquatic....we wouldn't be able to see them if they weren't released, especially not on blu-ray, while the other titles are available on DVD and could always be released by another label.

..no?..

I don't think any of us will be mad if it happens. We would just prefer most anything else.

I think River's Edge would be a good fit for Criterion. It's owned by MGM, it's a cult classic, it does not already have a blu-ray release (though that doesn't stop Criterion anyhow), and it's a pretty good symbol of the time it was made.

I don't see how it's less of a fit than Repo Man, anyway. (Other than the fact that it stars Keanu Reeves.)
