Oh okay, thanks for the suggestion.

Isn't the Lang version the complete thing, while the Moroder version is a shorter version that's in color and with music?

Pretty much, yes. It's more of a highly tweaked version that was once the standard for seeing the film, before the complete version was re-discovered.

I DID make the mistake of watching that one first.

I apparently had $30 of store credit at Moviestop. I got Ministry of Fear for $24 and put the $6 remaining on something else.

Haven't opened it yet. Should I keep it or return it and switch it out for the Blob?

Oh, thanks. I definitely didn't mean the Oscar winning best picture. I didn't care for the movie. There were whole story lines that just didn't belong and characters were not all fleshed out and that didn't ration some decisions they made. Not to go off but if the film focused on the Matt Dillon/Thandie Newton story line I would have been completely moved by it. Anyway, Cronenberg's CRASH I always felt like an S&M David Fincher film with some fantastic acting from the whole cast.

The Blob looks marvelous on Blu-ray. The colors really stand out, and several scenes look as though they were filmed on a sound stage here in my apartment.

I watched the film and am now posting this while I listen to the first commentary track. In between, I scrolled though the photos. As always when I went though these on my old DVD, I found myself envying that guy's collection of memorabilia. I've never been the type of person to have a lot of movie swag around my home, but I'd love to have the actual Blob.

It's great how the same company can release a socially-conservative film like The Blob while also pushing the envelope with Lars Von Trier and such. Fascinating cinema across the board from a historical perspective.

The Blob is one of the most fun Criterion titles, in the sense that it's just a good old special effects feature that I can watch on a lazy weekend afternoon or at night when I'm chilling out after work. The Blu-ray transfer makes this fun movie even more fun. I'll have to write a more thorough review later.

Stephen King drew direct influence from this with his short story, "The Raft", and with his Creepshow segment, The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill.

If you just watched The Blob, then you should watch Godzilla.

Best one sentence summary of the movie.

I really like his History of Violence, The Fly and Naked Lunch. When I saw Naked Lunch I thought Cronenberg was going to try to be faithful to William Burroughs' novel. I was glad that he put his own spin to it.

I really want to watch A Dangerous Method, because I remember reading a lot of Freud (An interpretation of Dreams) and Jung (his essays on collective unconscious) back in college. A drama based on these psychoanalysts seems very interesting.

I had about $30 in store credit. I was about to buy Ministry of Fear in cash, but then she just used the credit I had towards it and told me I had $6 remaining. So then she asked me to put it towards another movie and I put the balance remaining on Badlands just to do it.

However, I could return it, and use that $30 credit to get The Blob (would have to pay $2 out of pocket).

So is it worth getting Ministry of Fear, or should I go back and switch it out for The Blob.

I need to rewatch Crash, because it's probably one of my least favorite Cronenbergs, but it always gets such high praise. I think he might be my all time favorite director, or at least my favorite from my home country. The only films of his I haven't seen are Fast Company (have it but I could only make it half an hour through), M. Butterfly (don't really have any interest), Stereo, and Crimes of the Future (both of which I have as supplements on Fast Company, but I just haven't gotten around to).

But "Ministry of Fear" is genuine film noir, according to the frenchmen who wrote the book. Only about a dozen titles made their list -- a lot of people see a 4:3, 1040s, B&W crime movie and think it's film noir, but it may not be. It may be a "police procedural," "gangster movie," ... .

Thanks for the suggestion. I may, I'm still unsure what I'm doing yet.

I may just go to bed in a few as I'm currently looking up tattoo ideas.

What do think about A Dangerous Method. It seems like an unconventional story for Cronenberg.

I need to rewatch Naked Lunch. I think I was too young for it the first time around.

I really liked A Dangerous Method, but just don't expect much from Freud's character. He's purposefully written as smug & unwielding. It's much more about Jung's hang ups.

I was a bit cold on Crash the first go around. But like all of his other films, it's unforgettable. My least favorite has to be Cosmopolis at the moment, I think it's good, but it feels more stagey than A Dangerous Method for me.

I haven't seen those plus Spider, I'd like to as soon as I get my Naked Lunch blu ray though.

That would be 5/5 must buys for me and that never happens in one announcement...if we get one of those though that would be great!

I'm really hoping for something big out of the blue though that we aren't expecting for one of these upcoming months.
