I don't think we were ever expecting this. We can hope, but to my knowledge there is no indication they have Shivers and Rabid, though I'd love them to release them.

There seems to be the strong possibility of Scanners and The Brood however.

Thanks for the kind words!

I am looking forward to continuing some write-ups. After my mad rush to upgrade my favorite DVDs (or VHS) to Blu-ray over the past few months and revisiting these movies on a near-daily basis, I'm starting to settle into the most fun phase of collecting Blu-rays, where I can find a handful of movies each month that intrigue me and then branch out from there in the months that follow. Taxi for Tobruk and Green in the Sun from Olive Films, then The Big Heat and Rapture from Twilight Time will be hitting my screen soon, as well as Badlands and A Man Escaped.

I'd like to see Shivers (They Came from Within) again. This movie came on late night television once when I was a kid, and, while I do not remember the plot from beginning to end, I do remember that the movie made me uncomfortable in a way that stayed with me over the years. (In other words, it would probably be a great flick to revisit right now as an adult.)

Did they drop the June releases yet? I'm guessing they're going to in the next couple of days?

They should announce them on the 15th, so expect the word sometime tomorrow.

HUH???? I only thought Scanners was a possibility. If all 4 of these came out from Criterion at once, my head would probably explode!

Criterion is re-releasing it?

Or you haven't upgraded to blu yet?

I've had the blu since November, i just haven't seen it yet. It's damn near the top of the list of films I'm showing to my little brother, whose just been getting into quality films. So far it's been a bunch of Mann, PTA, Kubrick & Hitchcock. I know, I know those are pretty safe picks, but I'm not sure when i can program De Sica, Antonioni & Tarkovsky at a budding cinephile.

Unrelated note: Another film I'd love to see get a blu ray release is A touch of Zen, the Wu Xia classic from 1969. I was preparing a best of from that year yesterday on Mubi and it took the top spot. For fans of Croutching Tiger (ie everybody) please seek this one out!

I am glad you enjoy Bergman. Take care.
Thanks for the suggestions. I've already seen the latter two, but I'll look out for Hour of the Wolf.

just started Weekend on Hulu. About 30 minutes and it is quite sexual! Interesting to see where this goes.

The Bergman talk reminds me that I still have not watched my Blu-ray of The Seventh Seal.

Tonight, methinks.

I'm still floating on cloud 999 after watching the five-hour-plus television version of Fanny and Alexander in one sitting two weekends ago. That's one seriously awesome Blu-ray transfer.

I must say, the movie hit close to home for me so my opinion is very biased of it. I didn't have any extra-marrital affair problem with my parents, but I have heard them argue in my sleep plenty amongst many other things.

This movie was such an unpredictable roller coaster. Every time I thought something was going to happen, the movie swayed me in another direction. The music to the movie was just as beautiful.

There's so many "twists" in the movie that just make you go "WOW that explains that". You are introduced to his father as this awesome down to Earth hardworking dad. You feel bad because you witness the mother cheating on him. You feel bad for Antoine because as he says to the shrink, even when he tells the truth his parents think he's lying (and every other adult). He's beyond the ultimate underdog. I kept rooting for him the entire movie. To see his parents and himself enjoy a night at the movies so much as if there wasn't a care in the world, then the tough love of embarrassing him in class. The look of doubt on his father's face when told he'd have to give up parental rights. Even though his father kept saying he'd had enough, you saw on his father's face for those few seconds the look of "I love my son so much, is this really the right thing to do?"

Then the revelation of Antoine being a bastard child and what not. It made me appreciate his dad even more, dislike his mother a bit more or less, and just say wow this kid.

The running scene at the end was so beautifully done.

I think I'll probably watch this movie again and again, that much replay value.

So this is my 7th Criterion I've watched now:

Man Who Knew Too Much
12 Angry Men
Royal Tenanbaums
On The Waterfront
The Killing
Paths of Glory
Godzilla
400 Blows

and I have yet to be disappointed. So thrilled I've gotten into these movies. They're a much much much needed refreshment to the movies I've been watching the last 5-10 years that I always held high praise to. Paths of Glory,12 Angry Men, and 400 Blows ALONE have raised the bar on my cinematic tastes. I watched 12 Angry Men in school as everyone else did, but to watch it in this quality and actually understand all of what's going on was a huge difference. The simplicity of those films, yet the strong message, tone, and emotion each have separately really really strike the right chords.

Must buy more criterions! Must buy more criterions!
Some films I recommend based on what you've seen: Breathless, M, World on a Wire, Letter Never Sent, Nikkatsu Noir set. There's just so many, I can go on and on. These are just a few of my favorites and are very safe blind buys. Also, do you have Hulu? It's great for discovering new films on Criterion.
