I should specify that I've seen The Seventh Seal about a dozen times on DVD before with my old copy (the initial Criterion DVD edition with Death on the cover), but not yet on Blu-ray. Looking forward to seeing the new transfer!

I really wish Hulu was available in Canada. I'd be able to watch quite a few Criterion films before blind-buying them...

Internet Movie Database often has full versions of films available for streaming via Hulu, but I'm not sure how the setup is in Canada.

A few days back, after I watched my Blu-ray of The Wages of Fear, I wrote a glowing review of the movie on Facebook. A handful of friends replied and expressed interest, so I simply directed them to the imdb.com site where a full version of the movie was available for free viewing.

Wages of Fear was a great film. I'm newer to Criterion and it is only the second French film I have ever bought (first being Amelie)!! I'd like to read your review if it is available.

I just tried The Wages of Fear on IMDB through Hulu and it works here at my office... Though we have an American IP. I don't think it work work from home since it'd be a Canadian IP over there.

I will try, though.

I can still watch some stuff during my lunch breaks at the office...

Here is the review that I wrote on Facebook...

"I enjoyed a relaxed evening revisiting one of my favorite movies, The Wages of Fear.

This 1953 French movie tells the story of four down-on-their-luck men hired to transport two trucks full of nitroglycerine across 300 miles of remote South American terrain so that the explosive can be used to put out an oil well fire. Knowing that the nitroglycerine can be set off by a mere bump in the road or by the sunlit heat of the day, these workers encounter both external and internal hazards as they get their minds around the enormity of the task on this apparent suicide mission.

The Wages of Fear may be an old-style black-and-white film, but it moves forward with more intensity and insane edge-of-your-seat suspense than the majority of newer action films today, and it's easy to spot its influence on movies like Speed (Keanu Reeves) and countless others. The Wages of Fear was remade as a 1977 movie, Sorcerer, starring Roy Scheider, but you'll probably have an easier time finding this original movie on Netflix or other such places than you will finding the remake. It's worth your while. I cannot imagine anybody disliking this movie, unless you just absolutely cannot stand reading subtitles. If you want to see a classic movie that will really freak you out, give this one a go.

Highly recommended!"

Here is the review tweaked slightly for Blu-ray.com User Review...

If you want to see a classic movie that will really freak you out, give this one a go. It's a nail-biting action movie where Clouzot's borderline-misanthropic twists might throw a casual viewer off, but a great time can be had on this roller coaster.

The Blu-ray presentation is spot-on with more clarity than I ever imagined with this feature. While I would not exactly call this the king of cerebral cinema that makes intellectual demands on the audience, one does benefit from attention to detail with the character's faces and subtle nuances, so the additional clarity is most welcome. A series of informative supplements about Clouzot's mark on cinema adds to the appeal."

Haha, no worries... My boss would probably watch it with me over the lunch break if I told her about it.

I've seen her browse for purses on her iPad during a video conference meeting with another branch, so it's all good!

As for HR, being reported for watching a movie is the least of my worries. I get pretty raunchy with the women I work with. Good times!

It's a pretty big no-no to watch streaming video or listen to streaming music in my office building on work computers.

Posting on message boards is slightly more acceptable, I suppose, since nobody has shown up at my door during the past decade to ask me to clear my personal items out of my office.

Criterion Cast just reported on Twitter that Janus has picked up The Brood, so it looks like at least Scanners and The Brood will be coming to Criterion at some point.

It's such a fun film--I've re-visited it a couple times too, and it's just highly enjoyable. It may not be his most acclaimed film, but it's one of the ones I like the most.

I don't see enough talk about it on here--It's really one of my favorites..I always love seeing some appreciation pop up for it.

The Announcements are for June.
It's the lowest Spine# IN-Print film in the collection that hasn't been upgraded to blu yet.

[Show spoiler]Summertime ?

I watched Brief Encounter for the first time last night...very late. It had me hooked from the first minute - not the type of film that is usually my bag, but I thought it was terrific.

Anyway, can anyone tell me if is there a separate Criterion release for Brief Encounter? There is a blu-ray.com database entry for it, with cover art and the blue Criterion sticker, but it says "Release not available". Is it only available in the $60 "Lean directs Coward" box set? If so why do they have a separate database entry for it?

Thanks
