I'm in that exact place with The Game. I can't remember if I saw it in a theater or rented it but I was fairly ambivelent. I certainly didn't love it (I don't mind thrillers being a little manipulative but I walked away from it feeling like they cheated a bit too much) but I can certainly see myself giving it another look at some point so $16.50 is pretty tempting.

As I was looking through all of the titles, though, there are some excellent/decent third party and used prices for a lot of different titles. Definitely worth taking a look through if you've got some time to kill.
Oh, I didn't realize this was their Deal of the Day. Thanks. I've never seen Brazil so I'm tempted to finally pick it up.

Same here. Not a huge fan of the Game but you can't beat the price. I'm also thinking about Rosemarie's Baby,,,,

Had to pick up Rosemary for that price. It'd be rude not to.

Add Crimes and Misdemeanors and Another Woman to the list. Would love to have both on blu-ray.

The next BN sale may be in mid-July.

I know someone will ask.

No sale for me, as I already own 4 of the 6, and the two I don't, I have no desire of owning.

Still cutting back on my wishlist. I found parts of The Tin Drum interesting, and want to read the novel, but I can't say I'd be willing to watch the film again.

Has anyone read the novel, plus the two sequels, Cat and Mouse, and Dog Days?

Snap, BG.

(Now, if they'd made the deal something like "50% off any two Criterion titles", I'd have been in like a shot! )

Criterion announces new titles on the 15th of each month (Unless the 15th falls on a Saturday, Sunday or two days before St. Patrick's Day - in which case the release is then moved up to Friday or in most cases, pushed to the following Monday).

It's great that there's another sale on select Criterion titles but why is it always the same movies? Anyone who wanted Rosemary's Baby, Brazil or The Game would've grabbed them during the last sale, which lasted several weeks if I recall correctly. I'd really like to get THE BLOB and BADLANDS but I know nothing about the latter so a $30 blind buy is out of the question for me.

I unfortunately still wouldn't bite, I need to save money for a change. My wishlist us currently at 15, which may or may not change, depending on what Criterion chooses to release, and if I knock more off because I'm not enamored with them after watching them.

If anyone is curious, the two I don't own are The Game and The Royal Tenenbaums.

The others I bought during the last B&N and Amazon sales a few months ago.

Also, anyone at all read Gunter Grass? How is his writing compared to the film? How are the next two novels after Tin Drum?

I just pulled the trigger on Rosemary's Baby, since I've been waiting for it to come down to this price. I'm really happy to upgrade this movie at long last!

I did not order any of the other sale titles. Instead, I ordered a newly-published book about trail running that was written by a friend of mine with whom I run at local races all the time. Gotta support my local running friends, and the book brings the total price up to get me free shipping for both.

Funnily enough, my friend's book is about how long-distance trail running brought him closer to God. He'll have a good laugh when I tell him that I ordered it along with Rosemary's Baby.

Grass's writing is much better than the narration in the film. Although I enjoyed the movie tremendously, the book itself is brilliant and much more complex in terms of the narrative, Oscars a much more disturbing figure in the book and the ending adds tremendously to the perception of the reality of his "memoirs", something they skipped in the film.

On the subject of The Game, I listed to the default audio and I was really impressed by it. I hardly had to turn my TV up and it felt sort of like surround sound. Why aren't you a big fan of the film? It was definitely one of Fincher's most unique films and it has several nice twists throughout. Is it my favorite of his? Probably not.
I like The Game but the ending kind of muddles what I liked so much about the film. The twist kind of explains way too much and leaves me pondering the logistics of The Game (which is implausible to say the least) instead of the psychological toll it took on Michael Douglas' character. It's real fun the first time around, but the second time I couldn't help but feel like Fincher only carried out a great idea half way.

It's definitely worth the Amazon sale price though
