Yes, jacob... it was stated on Criterion's site that all orders through the end of March will be honored and filled.

I have a curious question. A few days ago I bought from FYE The Third Man and it came with the old Cardboard case. Well, my question is if Criterion still offering the replacement case or is it no longer replaced due to the disc being out of print?

They only lost the rights to the film. Their packaging and supplemental material will always remain with them since they created it. So yes you can still get a replacement case. Theoretically they could still put out discs with everything but the film. Watched UNFAITHFULLY YOURS today, started out average but the second half of the movie was great.

You think we could expect a review for Days of Heaven mid next week?

I'm really excited to how the transfer looks. Such a fantastic movie. What's your take on it? I think the little girl learns from the situation with everything that she'll end up making the right decisions and she sees her friend going the right way and to her that's a role model because the people in her life that were supposed to be her role models all had their lives end tragically.

I know this isn't really Blu-ray related but it is Criterion related. To those that watch Criterion movies using Netflix's streaming feature, how do you like the quality? I tried watching three Criterion films that were originally on DVD. I watched Mr. Hulot's Holiday and Shoot The Piano Player and the quality was pretty good for both. I could notice some compression going on but the transfer seemed pretty good. I then tried to watch À nous la liberté and the quality of the transfer seemed awful, like something that Criterion would never release, so I'm even wondering if they even used Criterion's transfer at all. I stopped streaming it right away. I haven't seen a Criterion movie in HD like Revanche yet since I always rent the Blu-ray versions of those films instead.

I've watched a few Criterion HD streams on Netflix (Revanche, Che, The 400 Blows and Gomorrah come to mind right now) and they were wonderful! Certainly not of Blu-ray quality but I dare say they were better than DVD.

For the non-HD streams, I've seen parts of Pierrot le fou (great PQ) and Monsoon Wedding (passable PQ).

Some of these streams did not use Criterion's transfer, or so I assume, because most of them start with the Criterion logo, while the others go straight into the production company's logo.

I opt to stream Criterion films rather than rent them on Blu-ray because if I find I enjoy them, then I buy the BD and get wowed a second time! :-)

I believe we are all in agreement here anyway (this being a Blu-ray site notwithstanding) that for Criterion films, it's their stories, direction, acting, and production value that really matter.

A lot is dependent on your internet speed...... and my internet sucks.... so the quality of normal streams aren't too great..... and the "HD" streams aren't even DVD quality for me (close though, so still very enjoyable)

I watch a lot of documentaries, and children's programming with Netflix... also Stand-up-comedy, etc.... if it's a highly visual film, I'll usually wait for a physical disc to be sent to me.

I tried to watch "BOLT" with my son, and there was so much blocking etc, it was worse than VHS quality.

Does anyone know where I can find a complete list of currently available replacement cases for blu-rays?

No worries I asked the same question a few posts back

I'm actually waiting for the digipak Criterions to sell out as I heard they'll release them in clear cases after that. I'll buy them then.

Most of the digipaks are close to or over a year old. My order this week contained 4/4 digipaks (Bottle Rocket, El Norte, Last Metro, Last Emperor). I know it is a bit annoying to have to buy the cases, but if you're waiting for the eventual release of clear-case editions via retail, you may be waiting quite a while. Just a heads-up.

Looks like they cleaned it up. Grain is apparent but nothing wrong with that. I wonder if it'll look like the Godfather transfer which in my opinion looked gorgeous seeing how old that film was. Hopefully it looks a tad better than that.

I enjoy foreign film in general, in fact far and away I've seen more foreign films outside of the Criterion Collection than in it. If anything it was my interest in foreign film that brought me to the Criterion Collection.

Any time I do a film festival, I try to see a few foreign films. Also, since I live in NYC, there is always a selection of foreign films playing. I haven't gotten out to see as many as I'd like to recently, but I did catch "A Prophet" Saturday at the Angelika. Really good film.

getting ready to finish "Revanche" I admittedly fell asleep during it last night (put it in at about 3 in the morning..... so it's no wonder! )

What I saw was fantastic though........ If that guy finishes chopping all of that wood, he's gonna be ripped

Great movie though..... another reason I love Criterion... probably would have flown under my radar otherwise.
