No, I just name-dropped it a few days back, because I have been taking a break from Criterions to catch up on some other Blu-rays in my collection. As someone else said here, it's sometimes fun to gauge the non-Criterion fare from people here.

I think I'm going to watch Damnation in either a few minutes or tomorrow. I've seen all of the other films. I didn't really like Afterlife or Retribution, to be honest.

The first Resident Evil movie was really fun (I own it on DVD) but there is a sharp drop after that one, in my opinion. I found the second and fourth ones to be really difficult to watch (in fact, I think we abandoned the 4th) and didn't bother with 5.

The first three Resident Evil movies are genuinely decent popcorn movies. The third movie, Extinction, is actually my favorite of the whole series. Afterlife and Retribution are good in that "so bad that they are good" type of way. They're a lot different from the first three films in look, because they were 3D releases. All five of the films function well as eye candy, especially on Blu-ray. A sixth movie that will gather all the major actors together again is in pre-production right now.

I've never bothered to see Resident Evil: Damnation, because it's a CGI-only feature that stands apart from the series. (I guess that I'm refusing to admit that Afterlife and Retribution were practically CGI-only flicks themselves.)

Criterion usually sends out cool coupons once every month or so for 20% off a Blu-ray, 30% off a Blu-ray, or something like that, and it's enough to steer me in the general direction of a store when there's a Criterion that I'm particularly eager to own.

I don't think I can wait that long for Monsiuer Verdoux I love Chaplin! I'll have to bite on this if I can find a good coupon deal.

I really should upgrade my Chaplin DVDs at some point. The Great Dictator is my favorite, but they're all quintessential.

The Great Dictator is a great film. It's probably my favorite Chaplin film that I've seen thus far. I can't wait to receive Monsieur Verdoux on Tuesday.

The more Chaplin films in the CC, the better.

I wrote that as a joke. I actually enjoy the selections that I linked (especially Equinox) and am glad that they are Criterion titles. They stand apart from the standard Criterion fare in a few ways, though.

Fair enough, though there are others that say the same thing at apparently every opportunity in a distinctly non-jocular way. It does get tiresome, especially if, like me, you're into skillful filmmaking on all sorts of levels, and not just the titles that lend a perceived air of cinephile.

Sorry mate, we've got a fairly ugly political situation going on in my country at the moment, something that I care about, but most of the discourse (in both directions) is unremittingly fatuous and brattish, and I think I've had my (over-)fill of snidery at the moment. So I guess I'm letting it overspill, and am being a little pre-emptive with what appears to me to be more of the similar.

Hey, wouldn't it be great if Blu-ray.com was some kind of virtual pub, where we could see people's faces and hear their tone of voice and buy each other a pint?! Everything would go a lot smoother, eh?

It's all good. I know what you mean, because it's not always easy to interpret someone's tone on the message boards.
I have a dismissive "Larry the Cable Guy" sense of humor in person, and that does not always translate well in my posts.

I've tuned out of the political back-and-forths here in America in recent years, because there's just too much snarky hate out there on both sides for my tastes. I just sort of woke up one morning and realized that, no matter what is going on in the world, I still have to show up at work every day, eat healthy, and get some exercise.

Best Buy seems to carry the Chaplins in store, so they should have this one. Add 1 or 2 Reward Zone certs and you just got the Blu for BN sale cost.

Hard to tell ya what to choose next, but The Third Generation is a great film and one of my favorite Fassbinder films (can't rank them). The dvd is wonderful, even for the package lovers (slipcover and clear case). The price is always cheap for some strange reason (figure a film like this always sees a $20-30 price range with other companies). The film features a huge group of Fassbinder regulars, so that is always fun. Highly recommended.

Question about the films in the Fassbinder Collection; I thought the Fantomas films were acquired by Janus. Is that why those are out of print, or are those a different license.

I just picked up "The Carnival of Souls" on Criterion DVD. I know I'm late to the party, but the transfer is sensational (even for a DVD) and I really enjoyed it even more this second time around.

If that happens, same deal, just buy online with RZs instead of in store, but hopefully it will be in store.
