I have about 3 more movies to watch before I have seen all the soon to be OOP titles and I place my order (currently going to purchase DIARY OF A COUNTRY PRIEST, GRAND ILLUSION, FORBIDDEN GAMES) the others I either own or did not like them enough to purchase.

Was anyone here going to hold off on getting these DVDs because SC will more then likely give (most) of these titles a release. I would guess within the next year for the major titles and another year for the less known.

I think it was a week ago I ordered my replacement Last Emperor case. Today, it arrived with my replacement case for another movie as well.

Damn fast service I must say! Thank you C!

well, spoilers....

[Show spoiler] I was expecting him to kill the cops' wife..... an 'eye for an eye' type of thing

Great movie though..... another reason I love Criterion... probably would have flown under my radar otherwise.
But instead
[Show spoiler]it's far more likely that he "sealed the deal" with the childless wife here the copper could not...
which in a way is the ultimate "f*** you", pardon the term.

Personally, I think he was "ripped" just enough.

Seriously, though, I do think Johannes Krisch's character, Alex, was very likeable. He seems to wanna do the right thing, but his choices to achieve the "right" thing aren't always the best. I can understand that completely and sympathize with the guy.

Watched this last night, great way to cap off the weekend. By far one of my favorite releases, just so well written and directed.
[Show spoiler]I think that is probably why I liked it so much because he did not kill the cops wife and the added guilt the cop put on his shoulders when he wants to know why the girl was in the car in the first place. That scene was pure joy!

Thanks! I did wanna ask if anyone here ordered any of the Criterions that were originally released in digipaks to see if they were already in the clear cases; I guess not. Where did you order from?

I know it is a bit annoying to have to buy the cases, but if you're waiting for the eventual release of clear-case editions via retail, you may be waiting quite a while. Just a heads-up.

Anyone else see Summer Hours yet? I saw it on IFC channel the other day and, well... it was not very good. I'm not entirely sure why Criterion picked that one. Nothing about the film seemed above average, much less exceptional.

latest additions to my collection

Contempt
The Ladykillers
Ran

now its time to catch up with the Kino releases, starting the vengence trilogy from BBY

I also found a brand new copy of The Third Man Blu-Ray in the local FYE store. I asked the associate if there was any other copies, she said no. It's the cardboard case version. It is forsale/for trade

I can get sanjuro/yojimbo brand new blu-rays for 45.99 shipped. Is this a good deal(other than b&b %50 off sale) I know its $48.99 from amazon.com right now and the lowest ever was $46.99. I feel like its not going to be much cheaper because its two full length movies together(unlike 2 cheaper documentaries monterey complete set)

Those are StudioCanal Collection films, not Criterion.

Ok, I'll just throw this one out there. Isn't the original Night of the Living Dead public domain in the U.S.? If so would it be possible for a good transfer to Blu-Ray? I'm sure a lot of people would have problems with this film on Criterion, but I'd love for this to somehow happen.

It's sort of silly when you watch it now. There are so many movies that still hold up today that are worth the finest detail.

You could say the same thing about almost any black & white movie. Some of them are in the Criterion catalog. Heck, I'd even say the supposed "greatest movie of all-time" Citizen Kane seems silly nowadays.

I feel the same way Ingmar Bergman feels about it. It's a film that's a bore until the the twist. The twist is one of the best twists I've seen in a film but the journey to get there is a pain. It dilly dallies way too much and it could have been reduced in length and ended.

As for Night of the LIving Dead the original, I mean the zombies don't even look like zombies. They look like pale people. It's too funny. The beginning is great though.

I'd love to see classic American horror films get the Criterion treatment.

From someone who is not a horror movie fan, Night of the Living Dead is brilliant. I'd love a Blu Ray release.
