Her line readings for all the different times she said "Get in" to Bond were clearly Oscar caliber.

Watched it for the first time a few weeks ago.

It's good. I wouldn't label it as anything great or compare it to Mifune's Kurosawa films. It certainly touches greatness in spurts, but it's never consistent, as it always bogs itself down with an over-reliance on background music and melodrama.

Not sure if you're trolling or not, but 8 1/2 and Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas are the ones that stick with me the most.

8 1/2 takes a few viewings. It is a film that has reverberated more with me as I've grown older and reached that part of my life where, ideally, I should have already achieved the peak of my accomplishments. It's tough to put a finger on it even now, but I relate to the film more these days.

Trolls meet trolls meet trolls meet trolls

Iscottie, I barely come on this board all that often but every time I read 'I thought this was BORING' I almost don't have to scroll left to know who it is.

How about you choose a better way to analyze and be critical with your thoughts?

If 1 out of the 2 of your favorite movies in the criterion collection is Fear & Loathing... Perhaps we need to point you in another direction.

I was skeptic going in, but I felt that she did a lot of the heavy lifting in To the Wonder and made up one of my favourite parts of the film.

Great to hear. I don't think she's a bad actress, but I find her just as uninvolving as her co stars Ben and Rachel. Hopefully To The Wonder proves me dead wrong.

By the way has anyone here seen Ain't them Bodies Saints? That's the other Sundance Film I wanna see (along with Upstream Color).

I'm glad to hear that. I've read a couple of non-spoiler reviews stating similar things.

I actually have no clue what To the Wonder is about, and I know nothing of the film other than the actors and the general location. It's probably best if I walk into the theater with only this knowledge. That will probably not be the case, because I tend to read a lot of film reviews before I see films, but I'll try to tread more carefully this time.

I didn't know that there was something wrong with being honest about a movie. I tend to always give a reasoning behind why I like or do not like a film. The majority of people on this board surprisingly like every single Criterion film. This leads me to believe that they either love the film because they love the company or they actually find the movie to be good. Regardless, I don't have to agree with the majority and I do not have to agree with everybody's opinions on various films. I have stated time and time again that I respect all of the directors and crew involved in all of the films, but if there isn't anything special in the film for me, then I generally do not like it.

For the bulk of the films that The Criterion Collection has put out, I have found them to all be generally good. A lot of films contained a unique subject matter or a relatable character that I formed a bond with.

So I return to my original argument. What is the big deal if I don't like a few films here and there? I posted that People On Sunday was a good character study and a good early entry into the film industry. I didn't feel, however, any special connections with the characters, I found it to be too slowly paced, and I found it to be drawn out at certain parts. I didn't like Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas because I didn't like the subject matter. Did Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro give amazing performances? Yes. However, I was falling asleep for parts of the film and the whole psychedelic drug journey didn't do anything for me. I don't really care how great of a cult film it is, I didn't like it.

So this leads me to one last comment. You clearly don't view the forum quite enough if you happen to stumble upon me calling a film boring or stating that I do not like a film from time to time.

I'd love to see it, from what I've heard it's very similar to Badlands.

Its structure makes it essentially unspoilable, but it's probably better to go in with little knowledge (I think I'd read several reviews going in). I did a small one here.

I like it a lot too. I really like Craig's Bond and QoS is probably my favorite of the three. And I didn't really have a problem with most of the action sequences. In fact, my main quarrel with Casino Royale is that there too many action sequences and they each went on way too long.

I wasn't crazy about the sometimes frenetic action style in QoS but the smaller doses were definitely welcome.

That's pretty hilarious. Just yesterday I put in a Deep Discount order and (as usual) I did a double-take at the sales tax because it was 'only' five or six percent. It doesn't matter how many times I order from vendors that charge IL tax, I always brace myself for the higher Chicago rate.

I absolutely loved People on Sunday and completely agree about conveying emotion. I'm still a little amazed at just how easily I connected with that film on a really gut level. And I'm still not entirely sure how they did it. Some scenes stand out (for me the scene from which the cover shot comes is the most prominent...you couldn't help but ache when she takes his hand) but it never really beats you over the head with anything.

I really can't wait for this. Everything I've read about it interests me. Hoping a trailer releases soon.

Quantum of Solace had a lot more action sequences than Casino Royale so that part of your argument is not valid.

I knew that there was an underlying reason why most people here prefer the plastic Criterion cases to the cardboard digipaks.

in all honesty, where is this person iScottie speaks of? There are always two or three films any one of us absolutely dislikes: for me it's Life During Wartime, Shallow Grave (mainly its inclusion in the collection) and Darjeeling Limited. I can still appreciate a few elements in these releases and by no means considers any of them boring. I think CC hasthe least boring output of all labels.
