I just researched this online after reading your post, and it looks to be a fascinating film. Definitely count me in.

I own Le Cercle Rouge and Army of Shadows. I put in an blind buy order for Last Year at Marienbad because I've wanted to see it for a while now.
Studio Canal does not own the rights to Le Samourai, so it appears to be safe.

Perhaps even sooner. And I'd assume if you ordered it today you'd get it - I mean, I wouldn't presume Amazon to have depleted the entirety of their stock in a few hours, but then again it's not like they can call in another batch of these from the supplier, either.

The DVDs probably have a pretty high likelihood. I'd say Leon Morin, Priest and Le Cercle Rouge wouldn't be too hard to find, either.

Army of Shadows and Last Year at Marienbad are going to rapidly become the more difficult titles to find. These are the titles that if you have *any* interest in picking up, you should do so as quickly as you can. You'll see a smadgering here and there upon the next sale, but I fully expect these two to be cleared not too soon thereafter; and travel along the Third Man and Man Who Fell to Earth paths in the aftermarket.

I've complained about a handful of films with this and/or other issues to Netflix, and some have even been fixed: Une Femme est une Femme was a title I was glad to see un-squeezed. <--Speaking of titles that Studio Canal owns and needs to release on blu-ray...

Any thoughts on whether we can expect a Criterion release of Shame? I think I'd be in. I liked Hunger a ton - one of my favorite of their more recently-made films - but haven't seen Shame. And now that you've mentioned Twelve Years a Slave, it looks intriguing too. I wonder how the Deep South and slave labor theme/context in Twelve Years will feel and compare alongside Django Unchained - obviously two very different and distinctive angles on that historical period and its cinematic representation.

It's already out on blu-ray

Has anyone had any problems ordering Criterions from ImportCDs in the past?

So it is, I wasn't aware until just now. Cool, thanks, I'll check it out. That's a pleasant surprise. I've really only followed McQueen through Hunger and that release, but this BD looks like a good package.

I also bought a back up copy of Le Cercle Rouge (I also own the UK Studio Canal Blu) I know I'm odd. :-)

I believe all these titles going OOP are Studio Canal releases and that makes sense as much as honestly Criterion can sell their product better than S.C. can. IMO.

Sure you can argue that scratched discs are just as unpredictable, but the blu-ray format hardly has that problem.

Netflix Instant is what it is. A great-access rental system, but not a replacement. A future in downloading, however, is far more realistic than online streaming. But even that is far away due to the cost and amount of storage necessary (especially for a collection of my size).
Depends on your Internet connection (wired vs. wireless) and your bandwidth. I've got a Roku box on a wired connection and have never had a problem with Netflix as far as buffering or PQ. Granted...it's not blu-ray quality, but it's at least DVD quality or better. It's a great way to catch films for a first time viewing and saves money on blind purchases. Hulu Plus is the same and carries a TON of great Criterion films...released films and those that aren't out on disc yet.

Nope, I've ordered a couple Criterions from them in the past. No problems

Pierrot Le Fou
Playtime
Leon Morin, Priest
Army of Shadows
Le Cercle Rouge
Last Year at Marienbad
Playtime is being re-released by them in the near future, so is technically not OOP.

Depends on which shipper they happen to use that day. I ordered THE BLOB, MINISTRY OF FEAR, COL. BLIMP, M. VERDOUX, and A MAN ESCAPED on March 19th, they shipped March 20th, and arrived by FedEx Ground on March 26 exactly a week after ordering. When they use Global DHL it usually takes about an additional week.

On the same order were a bunch of Olive titles, some of which came in the same shipment but several of which are still "open" waiting to be allocated even though they theoretically were released this week.

I heard it here on this thread...though I don't remember the source. Hopefully someone can chime in and support me on this. . I thought I had heard about the possibility of a boxset of his films coming out?

EDIT: From Facebook: Kirby Zerkle
Criterion renewed the rights and the films are coming back, most likely in upgraded form.

Get 'em whilst you can!
I saw your posting before all others and immediately went on-line looking for the least expensive Leon Morin, Priest I could find. I already had the other soon-to-be OOP blu-rays and had always meant to pick this one up. I am currently holding the copy I just purchased from my friendly neighborhood Barnes and Noble Bookstore. With the combination of coupon, B&N membership, and some money I had left on a gift card, I was able to get it for $28; not the price I would pay at a B&N sale, but now it's in my collection and I have some peace of mind.

In non-Criterion Collection news, I was able to pick up Amenabar's The Others blu-ray at Target for $4.28 including tax. It is my first Amenabar blu-ray.

I'm hesitant to pick up le Doulos, I keep getting that feeling like there's a blu release around the corner for some reason.

I took a quick glance, and Army of Shadows is "temporarily out of stock" on Amazon. This has been sort of like watching the Super Bowl. I can certainly see this one selling at prices equivalent to The Third Man at some point. No way I'm ever parting with my copy, though.

If I remember correctly, it was during one of the Q&A sessions they broadcasted on the internet. I thought they said they are restoring all of their catalog films from Tati.

It's sad they are losing many of the Melville films, as he is one of my favorite directors and also losing one of the greatest films of all time... I did think that SC owned his entire catalog, but apparently and thankfully they do not.

i had a copy of last year at which i got for 8 dollars shipped from amazon
Had to trade it cause i tried to watch it 2 times and both times i either fell asleep watching it or said what is this and turned it off

le cercle rouge is amazing though, have a blu copy of that with no artwork and a mangled booklet which i got used on amazon, but they told me to keep it since it wasn't in the condition stated when i got it

May jump on some of those Melville films.
Damnit! If its not OAR, it's not good, I may have to see it elsewhere.

If the DVD is going OOP because they lost the rights, then there more than likely will not be a Blu-ray (at least from Criterion).
