Thats how The New World felt to me, which I just watched 2 days ago. It just felt that he made the actors walk around in different nature settings and tried to make some sense out of it.

Now to make this relate to Criterion, I watched PORT OF SHADOWS yesterday and it was terrific. Highly recommended

Malick is notorious for that. Adrien Brody had one of the laregst roles in The Thin Red Line... in the script, anyway. By the time the film was edited, his role was cut down to 2 or 3 lines, although his presence is in the entire film.

I find this lacking as well, after a thorough informative review for the other aspects of the disk, the reviewer simply states what the supplements are but no opinion on them. Perhaps they are self explanatory, does not seem to be too much there when compared to other releases.

Exactly! I can't understand why you guys are getting all torn up over the review score for the supplements on "Yojimbo" and "Sanjuro." Are you expecting pro-b to gush about how amazing they are, or something?

Reviews are all subjective, anyway, so what does it matter? One person's 3-star supplements may be another person's 4.5-star supplements. One person's trash is another's treasure, etc. It's all a matter of opinion.

I was referring to the lack of explanation, just a small complaint. The score is meaningless to me, I personally would like to know the reviewer's thoughts on the supplements.

Yes, I understand, but I don't believe the Supplements section on any other reviewed Criterion blu-ray on this site are any different, are they? Pro-b does a good job of listing the supplements with usually a personal blurb about each one. I can't imagine that someone would need more than that.

"I make a film that will be seen and appreciated by the thousand of people I probably hate the most. I want to make a film in truly bad taste!" - Marco Ferreri

Hi everyone...this is not a Blu-ray release but it's coming out from Criterion on DVD and I just want to say that it's definitely recommended. "Dillinger is Dead" from Marco Ferreri is a true masterpiece!

What's very interesting is that this is probably the first booklet from Criterion where I've read a director who really could give a care about how his films are viewed.

"Dillinger's Dead" was a film that went well with the critics and people loved it and because of that, this ticked the director off so much that he wanted to go back and make films that would be provocative.

Even the interviews on the book, he is critical of the Cinemateque Francais (calling it "incoherent") and about art house fans. Definitely a director who speaks his mind and even looks like the interviewers featured in the book, seem quite ticked off by his answers. Really challenging each other. You just don't see that all too much in Criterion releases especially the booklets.

It's a film that doesn't have much dialogue and most of the time the sound is coming from the radio or TV but its the actions of the main character that you find quite interesting.

Anyway, don't want to spoil the film. It's a pretty unique ambiguous film with a bizarre ending but definitely a Criterion release worth checking out! It's a shame they didn't release this one on Blu!

I just posted on Criterion's facebook page, I need confirmation of Thin Red Line and Wes Anderson blus now

Criterion replied with "Be Patient.."

It's not really a confirmation but they didn't really say they didn't have the rights. There is a chance it could be this year.

Are you just wanting a scanned cover, or are you looking for a physical cover? The physical cover can be obtained directly from Criterion. Criterion sent me a cover insert for "The Last Emperor" free of charge.

I asked about The Thin Red Line on their facebook page about a month ago, never received a reply. There was a sourced post on the Criterion forum that indicated it's being restored with Malick overseeing as we speak. The reply you received inches in that direction.

Picture boxing isn't cropping. No part of the image is missing. It's simply slightly smaller and within a black outline border.

All Criterion Blu's that are 1.33:1 are not picture boxed/

Yeah. It doesn't indicate any official confirmation but it leads toward the right direction. I wouldn't be surprised if they release it to coincide with Tree of Life but I rather have them do that with Badlands because Tree of Life is going to take a while.

Anderson blus, I hope that's soon especially Rushmore and Royal (haven't seen it in a while)

it's strange to get any DVDs/BDs that are still accounting for overscan.

A physical cover is what I really want, but a scan is fine. My e-mail to Criterion has not been returned for 4 days yet, so I have sort of given up on that. I wish I could just call someone there instead of e-mailing.
