Yeah, I wouldn't mind "Me & Orson Welles" showing up at some point in the collection. I saw it in the theater and enjoyed it. I thought Christian McKay turned in an excellent performance of Orson.

Criterion announced the May releases on the 12th last month, so perhaps we'll know the June releases on Friday (12th also).

CC
McKay was robbed. Should've at least had a nomination. I like Matt Damon as actor but everyone knows his best performance of the year was for The Informant! not Invictus.

I dont want to replace the last year at marienbad case because I think the digipack works for that movie, and my third man came in the plastic. Not interested in the man who fell to earth, ill keep my DVD edition with the book. And for the last emperor, if I like it I will get the dvd counterpart because of the extended version included

Agreed - March 23rd is going to be a memorable day for my newly acquired Criterion habit - Days of Heaven with the Yojimbo/Sanjuro set!

Finally saw Revanche with the wife last night (only the third Criterion Blu-ray she's seen with me, along with "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and "Bottle Rocket"). She thought "it was OK", but I loved it. Out of all the Criterion Blu-rays I've seen (all but three of the ones that have been released so far) it's easily one of my favorites. Great script, cinematography, acting and I thought the ending was perfect. I also saw by myself "Make Way For Tomorrow" yesterday and I loved that movie too. I gotta thank Criterion because without them I probably would have never seen those gems .

Nice, Have you thought about what Criterion Blu-ray you are going to go to next?

I asked about this a while back on the facebook page. Do you have a link or any other info? I would pass out in excitement if this was to come to fruition!!

can som1 link me to that drawing they Criterion released at the beginning of the year? it was like a roadmap of what they're planning to release this year. i think it's been "written" already. what we request can't really influence what they're doing now. it's 2late in the pipelines.

Most distributors schedule many, many months ahead and I can all but guarantee that internally at Criterion, the releases coming for the rest of 2010 are being finalized. However, that doesn't mean that suggesting a title to Criterion won't help get it in the Collection. If enough people do request some worthy film, and they can license the title, I don't see why they wouldn't include it; just be aware that the planning and production time would mean it could take a couple years to actually see a release.

There are half a dozen possible titles that still haven't been announced:

Desert drawn in red: 'The Red Desert' (Michelangelo Antonioni, 1964)
Big Baby: 'Colossal Youth' (Pedro Costa, 2006)
Direction sign "The Idlewild Home For Ladies": unknown
Leopard: 'The Leopard' (Luchino Visconti, 1963)
Red dancing shoes on samurai: 'The Red Shoes' (Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, 1948)
Feather: 'The Four Feathers' (Zoltan Korda, 1939)
Man riding bike: 'Close-Up' (Abbas Kiarostami, 1990)

Plus Seven Samurai.

Well, Colossal Youth is part of the DVD release of the three Pedro Costa Films, so that one actually has been announced. And, as far as the man riding bike, I would have guessed that would have been a reference to Ang Lee's Ride With The Devil. Maybe not, as I would love to see more Kiarostami in the CC, but I just have my doubts about that one.

I think that Red Shoes, Leopard, and Seven Samurai are locks, but I would guess more towards Christmas with Red Shoes.

Red Shoes is a lock for June. Thelma Schoonmaker confirmed it in an interview--- she was Powell's wife until his death in 1990.

I'm counting Bicycle Thieves to get the BR treatment in 2010. Every time a film under the CC umbrella hits the art house circuit some sort of release seems to follow (it's playing here next month). In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it's announced this weekend.

I could be wrong but I hope I'm correct

So, I know I don't post here a lot (although I do lurk...), but I just wanted to vent and say that Amazon's crazy prices are really bothering me. I was planning to order a couple of the Criterion blus I'm missing (Wings of Desire, Revanche), but I really don't want to pay $29.99 for them.

I'm hoping the recent price hikes are an indication of an upcoming sale. I'm glad I pre-ordered Days of Heaven and Sanjuro/Yojimbo when they were cheaper. I wasn't so smart with Bigger Than Life and now they want $32 for it!

Thanks for listening.

By the way, watched Paris, Texas last night for the first time... incredible.

Default Che -- Criterion Collection

I have twice purchased the two disc Criterion Collection release of Soderberg's Che on blu-ray. Both times disc one played fine and both times disc two would not play. All I got was a blank screen with the Criterion "C" logo in the upper left corner. One purchase was from a music store and one was from Amazon.ca.
I have tried to get a response from Criterion but they don't answer emails. Has anyone else experienced this? I've never had a problem with any other blu-ray and the machine is only a couple of months old...Anybody know whether there is a solution to this?

I read in the Days Of Heaven has been processed with DVNR, what's that?
What's the diffrence with DNR and DVNR?
"Digital Vision's DVNR system was used for small dirt, grain, and noise reduction."
Does it mean that grain has been removed along with detail?
