The first seller offering Le Doulos for a shade over $30 new apparently has 7 copies still available.

I wonder how many actually bought these because they like the films.

They don't offer international shipping. I'll have to find another way.

Same here. I've been prepping for this by watching movies from the major directors like Berman and Kurosawa that I haven't seen and the only problem with watching films from great directors is the fact that it gets expensive. Those added to The Blob, Amarcord, and the early Malick films; the list goes on and on.

Some of my personal favorites Yojimbo, Ran, Dersu Uzala. He is one of the few directors that has a great, consistent filmography. So you can do no wrong watching any of his films.
Ikiru, Yojimbo, and Rashomon are the next one's on my list so Ikiru will be next. That and Beauty and the Beast are my big movies for today.

Went ahead and cancelled my Last Year with Amazon and bought it at B&N locally. Of interest they had a Richard III on the shelf. I have no interest but almost bought it anyway

I was reminded of the discussion last week-ish where Great Owl was talking about the use of empty spaces in Badlands. Unlike Badlands, where space was a meaningless stretch where anything could be discarded without reason...here there's so much reason to be found. The setting very effectively reflects the isolation that is easy to live by but so difficult to escape. Of course, we also do get a more intimate look at the character's thoughts here...even though they're more closed off, as people. I liked this film much more than that one (not that they need to be compared, they're very different).
I still haven't seen my copy yet, but I'm definitely a lot more interested in it now than I was before.

Also, you kept recommending the America: Lost and Found set to me, yet you hate it?

I am really glad to have interested you and I hope you watch it soon..

...but I definitely was recommending that you not get it as a blind-buy I'm pretty sure I didn't recommend to you, or anyone. I really don't like those films.

Did you email them about canceling it or did they notify you that they did it on their own?

I sent them a request about 2 hours ago. Received PayPal notice at same time of response email so I certainly feel relieved that the refund went through.

Which film do you like the least and the most from that set? I have only seen Easy Rider and The Last Picture Show both quite some time ago and both were not really my kind of thing but I have been wanting to see Five easy Pieces for awhile now.

I love The Last Picture Show with all by heart, even more since taking a class on it, but every time I see Five Easy Pieces I feel more and more that it is the quintessential film in the collection and one of the most enduring films of that entire era of cinema.

Has anyone ordered any of these OOP titles from DeepDiscount and actually received their order? I'd hate to play the waiting game only to realize they can't restock them.

The Last Picture Show and Head are the ones I liked most, but even then..they're not films I cared much for enough to want to visit again. Basically, had I seen all the films ahead of time, I don't think I would have bought the set.

Easy Rider was the one I disliked the most. It was the only film I really didn't 'get', I suppose. It might be necessary to have more of an appreciation for the time period, but I had the hardest time finding any substance in Easy Rider that gave it a reason for being celebrated.

Reading the essay included with Two-Lane Blacktop last night, however, I do realize that that film couldn't have exited without Easy Rider, so I do understand it has its place in history for its impact alone...but it just wasn't my kind of film. We were discussing that late 60s/early 70s period in Hollywood just this week in a class...and I came to the conclusion that as a whole I'm not a fan of that period of American film (with a few exceptions here and there).

Last year I ordered Slither on there because they claimed it was stocked. One for me and one for my friend as a Christmas gift. I waited for some sort of a shipping confirmation. One month later, "oh wait, turns out we lied! No copies, sorry."

Moral of the story for me: if it seems unlikely that Deep Discount would have it they probably don't. Maybe it's more likely because these movies just went out of print, but if I were you I'd start shopping somewhere else.

I was going to ask about Five Easy Pieces and King of Marvin Gardens. I expect people to dislike Head because it's the Monkees, much to my dismay. Also, since I hate A Safe Place, I'm glad when others do too. The last Picture Show's number 4, much to everyone in this thread's dismay, as it and Easy Rider seem to be the top two reasons why anyone buys the set.

Exact opposite for me. I couldn't get into Two-Lane Blacktop. But then, Easy Rider is only ranked 5th in the BBS set (as in, I can appreciate it, but it's not one I visit all too frequently), so maybe I'm not really that far off the mark.

Thanks. I ordered a copy of Le Doulos from Amazon Canada, but even they say it ships within 2 to 4 weeks. I think that is pretty much my last chance. $43!! I hate scalpers.

Ok, you're redeemed!

I understand the importance of Easy Rider, and it was kinda pretty to see the scenery, but I was a bit bored, so I don't fault you for disliking it, as I'm also not much of a fan. Also, I think Peter's the weakest Fonda. He's got nothing on his daddy.
