you said it. I would have so many more Criterion in my collection if it wasn't for the inflated prices. I must say, I understand the prices, but once in awhile, we gotta bring them down, and more often than Barnes & Noble does their little sale.

I was about to go nuts on some Criterion Blu-Rays, then I noticed Amazon has jacked up all their prices from a few weeks ago, so now I'll wait.

I was watching the upcoming Blu-ray release of Pedro Almodovar's "Broken Embraces" (Los Abrazos Todos) from Sony Picture Classics and there were quite a number of film and auteur references and noticed that every film/director mentioned, those titles were available from Criterion..."Elevator to the Gallows", "Peeping Tom", "8 1/2", "Magnifcent Obsession", etc.

I did the same thing...purchasing as many of the Kurosawa Criterion releases because of those special features. But I still want the Eclipse - Post-War Kurosawa and still need to get "Drunken Angel", "The Lower Depths" and "Stray Dog".

been following the prices at amazon for a few weeks now.
even though they fluctuate like everybody talks about, it seems clear to me that in general the prices are higher than they've ever been for Criterion bds.
I understand that the prices can fluctuate wildly--
(I am constantly buying dvds on amazon), BUT
the across the board prices for newer titles have absolutely gone up imo.
obviously not good news.

if you have AK100 (25), it includes everything from Eclipse... unless you REALLY want the graphics artwork and the smaller text. if you wanted to get the AK set, i'd skip the eclipse postwar. just goto the library and read it there =P. i know i never read any of the booklets twice. just once is good enough.

Just to let know;

Bestbuy is going to carry

Sanjuro
Yojimbo
Sanjuro/Yojimbo
Days of Heaven
Bigger than Life

in select stores. per RSS most mid-to-large size bestbuy stores ordered 2 copies of each for their inventory. They are usually at rsp but seen them onsale online a few days ago for $26.99 each maybe a %10 coupon might help as well. You can price-match bestbuy.com

the other titles they carry in stores

8 1/2
Gomorrah
Che
A Christmas Tale
Wings of Desire
Monsoon Wedding

I currently have Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Third Man. I managed to pick up The Third Man at a local used DVD shop for a low price. They have Wages of War used and I had them hold it for me until my next paycheck.

I have a question though. I'm looking to buy Pierrot le fou before it goes out of print. Should I wait till it drops more in price or just jump on it? Also, I know it's not out of print yet, but is this a second edition by any chance? I know Amazon was out for some time.

The Criterion editon of Pierrot will not drop in price...that much is certain.

I've debated getting this set. Reading how some people received skuffed up discs But I may jump on it during the next BN 50% off sale. The next sale I promised myself to get all the two Bergman box sets + the Bergman Eclipse, Akerman Eclipse, Fellini's War trilogy and a few more titles.

You waited too long. It's sold out online as far as I can see.

I grabbed three extra copies the day it was announced OOP

If Studio Canal is going to screw us over might as well make some dough from it.

I'm pretty sure you can still order Pierrot le fou before the end of March. It might be listed as backordered right now, but you should still be able to get a copy. I just dumped a ton of money picking up all of the Criterion DVDs that are going OOP, many of which were listed as being on backorder, but have shipped over the last week or so.

Just placed my order for the OOP titles. I already own Pierrot BD and Peeping Tom, and the order placed was for:

-Port of Shadows (this is a truely overlooked movie)
-Diary of A Country Priest
-Forbidden Games
-Grand Illusion
-Patriotism (not going OOP but for $19 its hard to pass up, especiall since I love Mishimi: A Life In Four Chapters)
