I'm taking a Women's Studies course as an elective. The two courses go hand-in-hand because we talk about the same things practically but get different assignments. I'm one of five guys in the class and there's about 30 girls haha. My Sex and Gender class has a bunch of guys, surprisingly.
Oh...mine had nothing to do with my major, I just took it randomly

I wish I had more chances to write about film like that..

Shows how much I have been keeping up if it was announced two years ago.

I don't think it caused too much of a hullabaloo.

I'm a huge fan of both films and both directors. I saw 2001 the year it was released in a then, state of the art movie theater and Blade Runner the year it was released in a drive-in theater. Both films are in my top 5 and I find it hard to put one over the other. I'd give a slight edge to Blade Runner, as it was a hard film to get access to for a number of years. It was also a film that should never have been made, but fortunately was made (it ran into financial woes, amongst other unexpected road blocks).

Just remember that Barnes and Noble has a 14 day return policy. I'm doing the same and have until 4/14 to return my copy, if I chose. It's in good/plus condition, so I'll be curious to see how my Amazon copy looks. It should hopefully get here by the weeks end, as it looks to be shipping by tomorrow morning.

I've watched my copy 3x, and according to B&N, It was "free." However, I bought it during a B2G1 free sale, so it was really more like 30, once you factor in shipping, GST, and the fact my other two titles were Night of the Hunter and Gimme Shelter. I did use the 10% off coupon, so NotH and Gimme Shelter did drop in price somewhat. They were definitely less than what B&N is advertising them at now, but not at 50% off levels. NotH I think was about 40 after the discount, and GS was about 30. I can't verify as the order was done in July 2011, and B&N's records don't go that far back.

I lucked out on my Marienbad copy. Teeny little dent in the bottom corner which isn't noticable unless you hold it right up to your face. And yes, this was shipped all the way to Canada too, in a box with the DVD set of Pillars of the Earth that me mam wanted.

Pretty sure this is the only time that I'm going to be writing about film until next year haha.

The last two major courses that I need aren't open. One class got filled up the first few days and they won't give me a permission number (even though I'm going to be a senior and should have priority) and the other one doesn't run until Spring 2014.

For next year, I'll be taking FLM 101: Intro To Film Media, FRN 101: Intro To French 1, and a history course on the Holocaust.

All classes were influenced by Criterion in some way. I still need to find a fourth to be considered full time.

BohemianGraham, have you seen Zabriskie Point? It's a really colorful (almost as much as Pierrot Le Fou) counterculture movie that any fan of the BBS set would like.

What do you have to choose from for English lit and/or History?

I always managed to work film and literature into my history classes. I once did a paper on the Scarlet Pimpernel and examining how such a figure came about years after the Revolution, and if any such historical basis for him existed.

iScottie, it's awesome that you're taking an intro to film class. Just don't pick too many fights with the Neanderthals that are dismissive of classic and art films

I have the soundtrack!

But no, not yet. I'm still trying to get caught up on everything else, plus I'm in the midst of moving. I'm admittedly taking an undeserved break ATM.

Once I'm moved, and in my mouse/******** landlord free apartment, I'll start watching more TV. I'm only watching unimportant stuff on my laptop, as my entertainment centre is disconnected, and partially packed up. Can't even find my couch at the moment with all the boxes and stuff.

Three more weeks of hell left.

I can understand why it was considered a flop, but my God Zabriskie Point almost reaches Michael Cimino levels of excess. I can't say it's a good film, but there's nothing else quite like it.

It should be quite a treat once you settle into a mouse free zone

The mice are probably glad they don't have to listen to Mickey Dolenz anymore too.

FTFY, and no, I haven't been playing Monkees a lot lately, I've been playing the 10h version of "They're taking the Hobbits to Isengard." I think they like that better.

Been there, done that

(kidding...I don't fight with them...I just roll my eyes. Well, not really. I imagine myself rolling my eyes... it's just as effective.)

..but as long as it's an English-related class and not a production class, people are more likely to be more knowledgable about films.

Many thanks for the insights on Le Samourai.
[Show spoiler]Yeah, the bird's incessant chirping, which as you've noted increases as the movie rolls on, is one of the most characteristic and memorable features for me. In the opening scene, I wasn't exactly sure what the sound was. It sounded like some kind of mechanism, or something outside the apartment, just a constant but vague creaking as the credits roll, and we barely see him smoking from a distance. The sound in that film - like Le Doulos - is really nicely done. That opening scene, up to the shot of the bird and him attending to it, felt both sinister and relaxed.

Well I can take English Literature and History courses ranging from various times in history to different styles of writing, like poetry.

During my freshman year I was unsure what I wanted to do. Being undeclared, I decided to get all of my Gen. Eds out of the way then, which resulted in me feeling overwhelmed and overburdened, as it was like 5-6 courses a semester. Since declaring my sophomore year as a Criminology and Criminal Justice major, I have been taking all of the required Sociology courses that were required. The curriculum is broken down into major requirements (I'm missing 2/6), two courses on issues of inequality (took both), and two additional courses (took two).

Since not all of the courses are available at the times that I want, I have been taking filler courses (which I hope count as electives - I'm honestly not sure, but I'm sure they do. Why would they make me take a course and not have it count for something?) for the past two or three semesters. So for this next semester (Fall '13 aka my senior year), I'm just taking courses that I think are interesting. I may just finish up my Sociology (C & CJ) major and then double major or minor in Film. Who knows.
