I really take back the comparison of The Lost Weekend with Reefer Madness. The Lost Weekend is definitely a darker film. |

Shame is definitely a raw film about sex addiction and how it can take its toll on a person. Every movie makes it look pleasurable, even in the darkest times, but this film makes a long lasting impression. It can be a very serious disease and McQueen tackles it nicely. Quote:
By the way, Michael Fassbender is blessed, if you know what I mean. Quote:
My family wants to watch Mad Men, too, so that gives me an incentive to watch regular films during the film and the show at night. Excellent! ![]() |

I just picked up a couple titles locally and mailed to other members for the cost at Barnes & Nobles and shipping. By any chance does anyone have a copy of Mafioso at their local store and would be willing to do the same for me? My online order is looking less and less likely to be fulfilled.

![]() ![]() I still really love it and am much more excited to receive it now. It feels wrong saying the packaging helps push me to purchasing, but in this case I find it hard to deny that ![]() Quote:
I guess octagon put it better than I did on the previous page. Since for me it was a pleasurable thing, I'm more inclined to find the film superficial in its depiction... and the reason I still find it great is everything about how it looks visually. I'd be interested in knowing how you react to Mad Men. I know you posted about loving the start, but I wonder if you'll like it more later on or if your interest will start to fade...it seems to go either way with most fans. For me I feel the quality has significantly declined after season 4, for other fans it's at the best it's ever been right now. |

![]() ![]() You always give us (the thread) a heads up on cover art. I am curious which ones have been your favorites so far? Last edited by Fellini912; 04-09-2013 at 05:20 AM. |

You are correct, shortmartin, about Bresson's minimalist approach to film making. I really like his style. For anyone who likes Bresson, A Man Escaped, is a must-see. I believe it is also a great place to start exploring his films. ![]() |

![]() I prefer original poster art. When not available, I like very simple but elegant designs. For classic cinema, I thought that the white cover for Last Year at Marienbad was beautiful. (I have the original release with the graphic cover). ![]() For contemporary cinema, I really liked the cover for Hunger. ![]() ![]() Pro-B Last edited by pro-bassoonist; 04-09-2013 at 05:29 AM. |

![]() I thought Army of Shadows and Chungking Express were pretty neat. I just wish they went with something like this for Bande a part ![]() I have this one framed and hanging on my wall. |
