Got my copy of Last Year at Marienbad today, and three corners were smashed in. I've been getting a lot of crap damaged from Amazon lately, but this one kinda pisses me off, since they say they can't ship another copy, because they don't have any. GRRR.

It was only released in digipack right?

Default Song of the South

I was reading somewhere that Disney's Song of the South was about to fall into some kind of "public domain" category ( I might be wrong about this.)

A couple of posts ago, someone wrote that it was about time for Criterion to release an animated film (I know, Song of the South is only partly animated.)

Would Criterion Collection ever think about licensing this film?

Thoughts.

Review for The House is Black. Not sure if it is/was Criterion, but it should be!

I tend to doubt it (Even if disney let this fall into the public domain). There are far more important animation titles Criterion could get that are in the public domain. I just think if Criterion is going to jump into animation (doubt it again) they would not go with something so raciest and obscure.

I remember seeing this at the theater when I was in third grade. I could see Criterion releasing this. It's controversial, but also intriguing from a movie history standpoint.

I always found it funny that most of this film (characters and song) are still apart of the Splash Mountain ride at Disneyland.

Fat Girl also fits into that category.

Last night we watched Ministry of Fear directed by Fritz Lang.

Somehow I have never seen any of Lang's other films, and I know this is a lesser of his works, but still, we really enjoyed it.

Quite a bizarre film noir where everything seems a little off, but it's really fun, and though the final reveal isn't really surprising, there are few unexpected and fun twists on the way. And the last line is one my wife and I will be quoting for a while to come, I think.

Fun and worth watching - The Criterion release is, of course, beautiful.

Just finished watching Naked Lunch. It's hands down the weirdest film that I've ever seen. With that being said, I enjoyed it to some degree.

There are probably so many ideas in the film masked by oddness and uncertainty, that somebody could probably write a book about the book.

Anyone care to explain a bit?

Doesn't Metropolis have a famously cheesy ending, with the whole "The mediator between the head and hands must be the heart" thing?

Today was a good day. After months of searching and a recent purchase that ended up being a mangled copy with a printer re-print cover, I finally got a brand spanking new copy of Diary of a Country Priest with a won bid equivalent to the original price!!

Now I don't even want to open it...

I'm excited to see it, as a I just saw the new Criterion blu-ray of A Man Escaped and after watching I said to myself: "I've seen the face of God. His name is Robert Bresson."

I think I was in fifth grade when it was re-released. I believe that was the last one Disney had of the film before it was placed in moratorium. The film has historical significance. Some may say that the film is racist, and perhaps it is, but then so is The Birth of a Nation and Gone with the Wind. I know that the film had a successful original run, otherwise they would have never have had all of the subsequent re-releases.

I've never had much of a problem with it personally. I find it optimistic, which suits the film more than its dystopian factories and biblical floods might first suggest. It's still an example of a Lang generally recognised as having a "cheesy" ending though.
