Sorry to ask another question but I don't have many Eclipse sets and was wanting to know if anyone has and can recommend Eclipse Series 17: Nikkatsu Noir?

I did the math and I think I'm going to go with Berlin Alexanderplatz. The thing being that the B&N 50% off price would be 50% off $124.99 (~$63), but the CC store sells BA for $99.96 (right now cheaper than Amazon at $104.49) and so with the promotions it's like I got BA at the 50% off sale! Plus it's 940 minutes plus another 90 minute version (from 1931) so 1030 minutes of film plus 2 1/2 hours of extras, an awesome value.

However, I don't mean to undermine the Rossellini War Trilogy at all; I'm sure that they are great films and the supplemental package seems equally worthy to Fassbinder's title, but one thing that did irk me was that the 25% off coupon made it <$50 which meant paying $5.95 S&H, so I'll just wait for the B&N sale to snag #500.

Couldn't there be a BD release for Berlin Alexanderplatz?

Nice.
Except they won't ship to me.
Anyone want to be my middle-man???

Take into account the extra coupons for B&N. I got my copy of BA for around $42 during the last sale (50% off, 10% member, 20% off coupon)

I sure as hell can!!! I got that one as a Christmas present. Great stuff, in my opinion. I'm all about the Eclipse sets, CG, if you can't tell.

If I were you, I'd also go ahead and pre-order Eclipse Series 21: Oshima's Outlaw Sixties from Barnes & Noble for $31.49. There are plenty of coupons online, too, for free shipping and, at least, 10% off from B&N.com. For some reason, all of the online retailers have a much lower MSRP price than Criterion's site. Amazon is charging just over $40 for the same set right now.

Now that would be interesting...if B&N did their 50% off sale next week Uhh...with this week with KINO sales, hope I'll have enough for Criterion, if there is a 50% off sale coming soon.

Hey CassavetesGodard,

I highly recommend both the Silent and Late Ozu...awesome Eclipse sets. As for Ozu, yeah...trying to complete my Criterion Ozu's...just need "A Story of Floating Weeds/Floating Weeds" and "Early Summer". But all Ozu films worth it!

Man, that looks great. If only everything Criterion put out was scanned in 4K from OCNs

Hmmm...a movie about buying things you can't afford, and Amazon is charging $32.49 for it.

Funny thing is I am starting to buy Eclipse sets because of the fact that the Oshima set is coming. Wanted a start on them before it comes out. Thanks again. I wonder why it's so cheap on B&N. I have to jump on that.

Thanks. I am starting off with Late Ozu and work my way back into the Silent set.

Do debit cards not work when trying to buy from the Criterion store? I keep getting error messages though all my debit info is entered correctly.

Where's this Kino sale you speak of? Didn't notice anything online at BN.com if that's what you were talking about. Does it end before next week when Fallen Angels comes out?

Had some time and decided to look at the Collection from a "potentially on Blu by the end of 2012" perspective. Disregarding OOP titles and Blu already officially released/announced (w/ street date), here's my outlook on Spine #'s 1-50.

2 - Seven Samurai - Officially planned for late 2010
3 - The Lady Vanishes - Already had a DVD re-release, so possible.
4 - Amarcord - Already had a DVD re-release, so possible.
6 - Beauty and the Beast - Already had a DVD re-release, so possible.
7 - A Night to Remember - probably not a priority; less likely
14-16 - Samurai Trilogy - would probably want to do all three simultaneously, so that hurts its chances; less likely
17 - Salò, or The 120 Days of Sodom - Already had a DVD re-release, so possible.
18 - The Naked Kiss - Criterion on record as contemplating remastered re-release. Possible.
19 - Shock Corridor - Criterion on record as contemplating remastered re-release. Possible.
22 - Summertime - probably not a priority; less likely
24 - High and Low - Already had a DVD re-release, so possible.
26 - The Long Good Friday - probably not a priority; less likely
29 - Picnic at Hanging Rock - Remastered re-release long in the works. Definite.
31 - Great Expectations - Criterion on record as contemplating remastered re-release. UK release already out. Probable.
32 - Oliver Twist - Criterion on record as contemplating remastered re-release. Possible.
33 - Nanook of the North - Age of the film probably makes this less likely
34 - Andrei Rublev - Remastered re-release long in the works, however with issues gathering elements. Definite, but might take longer than 2012.
35 - Diabolique - Criterion on record as contemplating remastered re-release. Possible.
37 - Time Bandits - Anchor Bay/Starz probably will release it themselves; unlikely
38 - Branded to Kill - Criterion on record as contemplating remastered re-release. Possible.
39 - Tokyo Drifter - Criterion on record as contemplating remastered re-release. Possible.
40 - Armageddon - Disney releasing in a few months; never
41 - Henry V - UK release already out. Probable.
42 - Fishing with John - 16mm source and TV factor; unlikely
43 - Lord of the Flies - probably not a priority; less likely
44 - The Red Shoes - Definite. Most likely June 2010
45 - Taste of Cherry - probably not a priority; less likely
46 - The Most Dangerous Game - probably not a priority; less likely
47 - Insomnia - probably not a priority; less likely
48 - Black Orpheus - Criterion on record as contemplating remastered re-release. Possible.
50 - And the Ship Sails On - probably not a priority; less likely

So by my estimation that's:

4 definites
2 probable
12 possible
12 less likely
2 unlikely
1 never

Thoughts? Counter points? Additional info?

Also, the hint for Del Toro's "Chronos" came out more than six months ago, and there's still no release date for that.

Insomnia is a Criterion? I never knew that. (Al Pacino/Nolan version)

I'd like a bluray of that soon, don't care if it's Warner or Criterion.

Not the remake, the original.
