I'm nostalgic for those nineties days when things were things and places places. As much as I like shopping online, and have my wish lists and carts, I still like going to places to buy music and movies. Luckily, there are some good local retailers here in St. Louis, where they have good customer service and you can have some good, stimulating, informative conversations, with the employees, other customers, fans, and collectors (like the conversations on this forum).

Much of my family lives in Austin, TX, and so when I visit there I'm also drawn to the several local shops, like Waterloo, where the Criterions get a nice big section. I love going to Waterloo Records and just browsing. They have (new and used) copies of nearly every Criterion, including a whole section devoted to BDs. Another of my favorite things about Austin is that there are some local video stores where you can still go in, browse videos for a while, and rent one. Amid the on-demand culture, this ritual is something that I love doing and boy will I miss it when it's gone, if that does happen.

Oh I don't know. I saw the trailer and I was like "There's another movie I don't need to watch". I thought it looked phenomenally stupid and gimmicky and having no dramatic heft. De Palma's film I like a good deal and to me it comes across as a leaner and less turgid version of the story than the source book. I also like that the destruction is limited in scope, it makes the character that much more credible IMO.

That's a valid point, and I can see where you're coming from.

I rather liked the 2002 TV version of Carrie that starred Angela Bettis. She was quite believable in the role, and the film had some memorable images for a TV movie at the time.

Those categories are never reliable..it's always been listed as one on amazon.

Just watched my copy of Naked Lunch. The transfer is really stunning, as expected. Probably one of my favorite Cronenberg films. It's got me in the mood to watch some of his films that didn't hit me the first time around (Crash, Rabid, Spider, to name a couple). I'll probably get around to a few of them this weekend. Looking at what Cronenberg has and hasn't gotten the blu-ray treatment, I'm surprised something like Fast Company is available but nothing has been done with The Brood or Crash or Spider or.

It's a sad affair. I remember when Best Buy first opened during the mid-1990s and you could practically find every movie and every CD ever released there.

If you're looking for turquoise glitter tiger-stripe iPhone cases, though, you're probably in the right place.

I still have a Fry's Electronics less than 15 minutes from my house, and they maintain a pretty extensive selection of movies. Even with some similar shrinking of titles that don't move, they currently have twice at least twice as many titles as my Best Buy ever did. They also iced that cake by price-matching the internet.
