Buy.com has been put a lot of the Kino box sets on eBay this past week (buy it now). I've been going crazy with them... Kino's rarely go on sale and are typically expensive!

I think this is unlikely for a while. Berlin Alexanderplatz takes up six discs plus a seventh of extras, and I'm not sure a single title with seven 50GB Blu-ray Discs is a practical move for such a small distributor until the format becomes more widely-used.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the appeal of this set is in the nature of the films and their sexual content. I know I'll get flack for it, and maybe some will even go "on the defensive" as they say, but I haven't seen buzz like this for an Eclipse release since Early Bergman, Postwar Kurosawa, or, at a stretch, Nikkatsu Noir. I think many feel that these Oshima films will not see a better presentation for several years, if ever (although one could say this about many Eclipse sets), and therefore Eclipse 21 has piqued the curiosity of many fans (myself included) who would otherwise not bother purchasing a feature-only DVD box set in 2010.

It will be my first Eclipse set.

Well talking for myself, you are going out on a limb, because I want the set mainly for one title called "Japanese Summer: Double Suicide" that I have been curious about for a while. Doesn't have anything to do with "sexual content" since you can find that stuff in better places. But hey some people probably are buying it for that reason, so I don't know.

Yes. None of those I listed are StudioCanal licensed.

If Breathless is StudioCanal licensed I expect it will eventually go OOP, which means it unlikely for a BD release from Criterion, IMO. However, if it is Rialto licensed it probably has a really good chance at a Blu release.

As for Autumn Sonata, this seems to me to be considered "lesser" Bergman. I would expect them to release one of his more popular films (Fanny and Alexander, or even Wild Strawberries) on Blu before this one. But they could surprise me.
