Yeah, I haven't opened my Cohen yet but word on the street is there's not a lot of room for improvement. Maybe supplements could be beefed up a little but that appears to be it.

I'm thinking it would make for a fun summer release.

I'd love to get M. Hulot's Holiday on blu for summer but I gave up predicting that every time the warm months came along.

I would love to see more LVT get BD releases.

Dogville would probably be my top 'new to me' choice and Element of a Crime is something I'd love to revisit on BD.
The first time I saw it was shortly after seeing Dancer in the Dark and Breaking the Waves for the first time. I thought it was manipulative and thinly sketched. But now I see the build up, the inevitability and the fullness of emotion. I really respond to the journey Charlotte Gainsborgh goes on. At some point in our lives (or throughout) we will question death, encounter it, ruminate on our purpose and whether the universe is deterministic. Maybe I'll never get the answer, but its reassuring that there will be art, literature and films like Antichrist to explore this plight.

And I haven't seen That's My Boy, Tyler Perry's Madea Gets a Job in Witness Protection or Battleship but I have a feeling Dark Shadows wasn't quite as bad as 2012 got. If nothing else, of the 2012 films I've seen it was much better than Looper.
While I think Looper is a better film, it was easily one of the most forgettable films I saw last year. The overwhelming praise still baffles me.

Yeah, I really don't get it either. Setting aside better/worse, I'd say Looper (with maybe Bernie close behind) was the most disappointing 2012 film so far.

I wish Burton had tried to make a different kind of Dark Shadows movie but he didn't. And they did a pretty good job of making the kind of movie they were aiming at. The performances were largely good, the execution was good overall and while some of the jokes were pretty cheesy, that's what they were going for.

Looper just missed mark after mark though. The story had a lot of promise but just seemed very lazily written after a while, the performances were flat when they weren't hammy and even the overall look seemed a little off.

Sorry Filmspotting but each of Rian Johnson's films have underwhelmed me a bit. There's no doubt he's talented, but I don't feel like he's fully realized his potential yet.

I brought up The Thief of Bagdad the other day.
I really highly recommend this film if you like silent films, epics and adventures.
The visual/audio package is fantastic, although the extras are a little light.

The only answer is that there aren't any answers. The questions are always interesting though.

[Show spoiler]
All that being said, I bought Yi Yi a few weeks ago and was finally able to watch it Friday night. Omg. For a movie that has
[Show spoiler]a wedding, an attempted suicide, a suggested inappropriate teacher/student relationship which leads to murder, a comatose grandmother who eventually dies, someone who has an implied nervous breakdown, and a funeral
Yi Yi is a masterpiece of subtle realism. Every character was interesting and felt so very real, even Yang Yang with his preternatural ability to realize the half truths of life at such a young age.

Min Min's breakdown scene really got to me.
[Show spoiler]"I have nothing to say to mother. I tell her the same things everyday, what I did in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening. It only takes a minute. I can't bear it. I have so little. How can it be so little? I live a blank. Every day...every day. I'm like a fool."
For anyone who doesn't already own Yi Yi, I highly recommend you give it a buy come the Barnes and Noble half off sale, if not before.

Last night I watched Leon, Morin and quite enjoyed it as well. I have been meaning to pick it up for awhile but the OOP announcement forced my hand and I'm quite glad it did. Such a shame that this movie is going OOP though.

I listened to the little bit of commentary that was included. There is a 3 hour long cut of Leon, Morin?!? Ugh. I want it so badly.

Has that version ever been screened anywhere?

Hope I haven't bored anyone. Lol. I'm now off to watch Army of Shadows for the first time. Woohoo.

Welcome randomzombie! Anyone who capitalizes their 'I's and can use preternatural in a sentence is a welcome addition! and lurking is always quite acceptable. Be interesting to hear more of you comments on Léon...
