Without a doubt.

What I like about this edition of Lord of the Flies is that it looks like it could be the cover of an old paperback edition of the novel.

hmmm.......kind of meh for me overall.
was really hoping for some more UA films.
but the 2 upgrades are welcome news, and Babette's Feast is a nice choice.
the wait for Eraserhead is becoming frustrating at this point.

I knew that this Blu-ray was coming, as we all did, but I'm really pumped after seeing the cover art.

I did a massive book report on the novel, Lord of the Flies, in middle school, and it was one of my favorite childhood books. (Yes, I'm strange that way.)
I am pleased to upgrade my Essential Art House DVD of this movie at long last.
I couldn't stand that book for some reason. It was partly because my English teacher was TERRIBLE at explaining literature.

Hi The Great Owl! Thanks for the welcome.

Oh yeah, I'd definitely love to see that extra hour or so of footage Melville shot for Leon Morin, Priest. I love the film as is, but after seeing LMP and Army of Shadows, I've become extremely interested in the French Resistance and it's my understanding that the cut footage includes more on the Resistance and everyday life under occupation. I could not figure out where the little boy Barny takes into the country to live with another family came from, but I'm assuming that is something that was related to the cut footage? I need to re-watch.

Army of Shadows was more than I was expecting, if that makes sense. The tension through out the whole movie was palpable and the feeling that no one would make it through the movie alive made me dread for it to be over.
[Show spoiler]Mathilde's death sequence was both terribly sad but also less horrific than I was fearing it would be. It was fitting that Jardie was there and Le Bison pulled the trigger. I think, for obvious reasons, Melville was able to effectively show that even though resistance was ultimately a doomed existence for many people, they wouldn't be able to live any other way. They had all already accepted their possible fates. Mathilde being killed by her friend was therefore almost a mercy killing compared to what could of happened.

I really liked Army of Shadows, as you can see. Lol

awful, awful, awful month. Not one title for me. All they do is re-release stuff that already has perfectly fine DVD editions. There is no point anymore to Criterion if that is all they are doing.

There's no such thing as a perfectly fine DVD.

Totally unrelated to the topics at hand, and my apologies as such...

There are news reports airing right now about explosions at the finish line area of the Boston Marathon. Several of my friends are running this race today, and several others are at the finish area. If you have some prayers at hand, please send them that way.

What a coincidence! I am listening to "Losing my Religion" right now, but I will do so afterwards.

I am interested in Lord of the Flies although I've never seen it. I've seen both Devil's Backbone and Ice Storm and I liked them both. Devil's Backbone intrigues me more of the two however. None of these stand out to me as "must haves" but will likely get one of them because they release the same month as the sale. Probably will buy LOTF first.

I've always preferred to think that coming towards the end of life would be like coming into the last chapters of a very nice leather-bound book, but each to their own analogy.

Six pages back and coming slowly up to the announcement~ it's like coming down the hall toward the living room where the Christmas tree is waiting all shiny and present-laden. Actually I'll be happy with one little gem...
