I would have a heart attack if that one happened.

Me too, I mean it's a no brainer as it meets the requirements and is public domain.

I watched my copy of Le Cercle Rouge last week and I don't know if I'm a fan. While I understand where other films got concepts from it and how "cool" it is, it just didn't do much for me. I don't regret my purchase, but it wasn't the bread winner I thought it would be.

The scene that was probably supposed to be the most tense (the heist), I ended up falling asleep during due to the lack of sound. It seems that Melville really had his finger on exactly how he wanted sound to be used. I commented that no modern motion picture would be able to get away with a scene like that without sound. I guess if I had to compare it to something recent I'd say one of the scenes in Haywire. Oh well.

I bought Army of Shadows and Last Year, so I'll see how those go next. I did recently rewatch Seven Samurai too. I love that movie to death.

I'd love to own the original Night of the Living Dead on Blu-ray, but I feel as though I need a Ph.D. to figure out which edition is the best one. If it were released as a Criterion title and given a restoration by their standards, then this would be a simple choice.

Japanese Happinet release FTW It looks fantastic, and the black case really does it justice.

EDIT:

CDJapan.com link for that release:

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=BIXF-23

If you're paying in USD, the exchange rate is also in your favor right now.

Thanks! That's actually the one that I've been looking at the most. Maybe soon.

You're welcome! I bought that release based on the positive comments on this site, I'd never seen it before I watched the Japanese Blu-ray. It was a much more intense, exciting experience than I anticipated, particularly given the age of the movie. Though I don't know how the other releases compare to it, I was definitely impressed.

Also, you'll save quite a bit by using CDJapan.com over Amazon.co.jp. Amazon forces you to use express shipping if you're in the US, making the cost of a single item rather prohibitive. And I believe you get 300 points at CDJapan.com for signing up for a new account, which you can immediately apply to an order.

I've been having that problem too. I have Dawn and Day on Blu-Ray and want to find a good copy of Night.

After seeing a certain image from Olivier Assayas' Boarding Gate, I had to order it.

I was thinking of blind buying Pale Flower. I love Film Noir. Anyway, anyone here own it and want to share their thoughts on the film and disc presentation?

I'm actually flattered anytime I randomly pop into a thread and see a shoutout.

It happened quite often in the Movie and TV deals forum. I'd click into threads I normally wouldn't click into just for random interest and see someone make a MasturB reference. Or I'd go a few days without clicking and reading a thread and see it's gotten 5 extra pages since I last read it and see my name mentioned somewhere.

I watched it recently and really enjoyed it. Beyond Pro-B's review, I can't offer too much other than the video presentation is fantastic, and if you enjoy film noir, there will be many elements here that will appeal to you. Both Muraki and Saeko are cool and cold; I never knew where the movie was headed, which made it that much more interesting. And it involves gangs and gambling, both which help to heighten the suspense. I'll watch it again, as soon as I trim down the backlog

I'd so highly recommend it. It goes beyond just film noir and becomes this very enigmatic yet breezy film that feels endlessly 'cool'. It's a hard one to describe the appeal of until you experience the style for yourself.
