Ok, 1 more question. If you do use express lane, can they price match?

That is going to be a YMMV situation, bottom line: it never hurts to ask. There was somebody who was convinced that you could price match and use a $5 off coupon, but even if that was confirmed by a BB employee, it's going to depend on the mood of the person working that day.

If you use Express Lane without a $5 coupon, then I don't see why they wouldn't price match.

Excellent question. I am at the verge of buying it. I am a big fan of Harakiri and Kwaidan . Human Condition is considered Kobayashi's masterpiece. It is at a great price.

Thanks for posting, although when quite a few of these come out, the B&N sale should be going on. Most likely worth waiting for the sale. Or one could always pre-order then cancel if able to purchase in store.

That's the best route to go. Plus, the only thing that can happen when pre-ordering is that they'll drop even lower in price. If worse comes to worse, then cancel the order and get them at BN lol.

I think Ice Storm and Devil's backbone are must gets, and I'm interested in LOTF, not sure about the rest. Time to do some research

Looks like 3/5 have commentaries, which I always appreciate.

On another subject, Army of Shadows. I'm stupid, I didn't buy it and I'm regretting it. I have one option for around $60, but I would rather trade for it. I don't care if it's open... Just thought I would throw that out there

I really want Shoah, but it's $100 here.... I'm struggling with that.

For anyone not opposed to Criterion DVD, I just noticed that WC Fields: 6 Short Films now shows as OOP. I looked on CriterionForum and they mention it from about 3 days ago. I ordered a copy to go with my copy of The Bank Dick. It looks like about 8 years ago, it also went OOP for a short time.

Anyway, in case anyone wants to order it. Here I thought I was all caught up on OOPs when I ordered Mafioso and Withnail & I the other day.

Some still do. Check out this hilarious podcast about bad novelizations of (usually) terrible movies. http://www.thebookwasbetterpodcast.com/ (Best to start at the beginning as one of the hosts is on maternity leave currently)

Thanks sir! Pre-ordered Devil's Backbone. Used $5 in points so this should put me under any sale that B&N has.

Thoughts? Opinions? Worth a purchase at a decent price now or do we suspect a re-release on blu-ray? I asked the same question a couple of weeks ago on Rossellini's War Trilogy and went ahead and purchased the DVD edition as both of these sets came out during Criterion's blu days.

Two words...Hulu Plus. It's only $7.99 a month and will save you the money wasted on buyer's remorse. The Human Condition is on Hulu...the whole 9+ hours. I haven't gotten to it yet, but want to, when I get the time.

Amazon.ca skipped out on the low pre-order price once again. Guess this just adds more titles to my wishlist come July.

Really great line up. I'm very curious to see the reaction to The Immigrant.

Great lineup, it is nice to see Diaz. Hard to figure what Spielberg might lean towards.

Most Criterions sell at Barnes & Noble for $39.99 so 50% equals $20. Then if they have non-member coupons, usually 15% the total becomes $17 before sales tax.

If you're not a member it might be wise to save Best Buy reward zone points and use potential certificates on these titles after price matching. That's assuming your local Best Buy carries Criterions.

You're looking at spending at least $20 plus sales tax if you're not a Barnes & Noble member.

I'm pretty sure it was you that wanted me to report back after the Q&A with Haskell Wexler. His response to the whole controversy of two cinematographers was that he was a little upset over the entire situation (he claimed he did more than 50% of the footage), but he said he loves Néstor Almendros and is happy that he could get the award. For the record, Almendros was the one that filmed the locust/fire scene, so.. yeah.

It was a 35mm print for Days of Heaven. Gorgeous. That's the only way to describe it. The fire scene in particular, when the adults are silhouetted against the fire, was particularly jaw-dropping. I still greatly prefer his later work, but there's a lot I love here. I did not remember Linda Manz being as fantastic as she was. She really carried the film.

Oh, and when asked what Wexler thought of Malick, his response was: "Terry...he's a weird guy... sort of ecologically spiritual."

Yeah, I don't know where they get their Criterion prices from. They're higher than the MSRP.
