I'm not much of an audiophile, but since moving my Surrounds closer to me, watching movies at home has never been better. Maybe I'm still riding that high.

By the way, I'm seated to watch Lords of Salem right now
I use a "cheap" 7.1 system myself. I say cheap as it was a HTiaB Onkyo set that I got for half price. Regularly 800, got it for 400 at Best Buy on clearance. It's the HT-S5400 set, and it's very nice, although a lot on this forum would flip out because it's a HTiaB set, and thus is vastly inferior. I'm semi-snobby about audio, as I do prefer FLAC or the highest bitrate MP3s, but it's nothing crucial. As long as I can hear it without it hurting my ears or being full of noise and crap, it's fine. I'll have to see how my system works in my new place next week, as the new livingroom is a different shape and size to the current one. Raiders of the Lost Ark sounds absolutely fantastic on it, for what it's worth.

For those of you who just live in rooms and say SS isn't worth it, I have a younger brother who's currently in a single room, and he has a SS system set up with no issues. Mind you, his room is essentially the size of my current livingroom, but it has a heck of a lot more stuff in it.

Also, I am officially on hiatus from Criterion purchasing for a very, very, very long time. I kinda had to go buy a new car today, instead of holding off on it. My current one, a 2004 Ford Focus wagon, blew a brakeline Monday, which was fixed, but it's to the point where I'm sinking more cash into it than what it's worth. So yeah, the dealer just has to put cruise control in it for me, and I can pick it up later this week. The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp is my last one for awhile, although my mother has hinted that she might pick me up a couple off my wishlist during her trip to New England in June. And yes, I did buy another Ford.

Just watched the trailer and I think I might have actually seen this before. I remember watching a movie a long time ago on IFC or something. It was in Spanish and was set at an orphanage.

The more I think about it, the more I think that it was, in fact, The Devil's Backbone. I don't remember if I liked it though.

Is it on Hulu or Netflix?

I liked it better than Pan's Labyrinth. And one of the safest Criterion Blind Buys I can think of. July is looking like a really solid month for the B$N sale.

That wasn't where I watched it if that's what you're asking. But I did a quick search and couldn't find it on either of those two.

I could rent it, but all my Criterions are blind buys anyway and I haven't made a bad choice yet. The B&N sale will help too.

Default Costco and BB

Just got back from Costco. They had 4 Criterion's.

The Game
Rosemary's Baby
The man who knew too much
Anatomy of a murder.

I have 2 of the 4. The Game and Rosemary's Baby, the others I wasn't sure of. Orange covers scare me away!

Then went to Best Buy because it was next door. Again I can only find Badlands there. Before they merged all the blu-rays with dvds, they would have a Criterion section with at least 15 different titles. The Killings, 12 Angry men, the thin red line, a night to remember, and some of the other more common place Criterion's. I searched good but couldn't find any more. I imagine they sold them and just never replaced them all. Brazil I know for a fact used to be there.

And yeah, I used to blind buy a lot too. I've become more cautious since I had to start cutting back on purchases,

Do not be afraid of Anatomy of a Murder. It's not scary at all, and it's a fantastic cover. It's the original Saul Bass artwork!

In honor of 4/20, we should all watch one film from the BBS set.

True, except is is very unlikely The Devil's Backbone will be part of it, based on past history of sale start and end dates.

Oooh, I know which one! Also, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Dazed and Confused would be good titles to view too.

That's prefectly fine. Everyone likes different things. Admittedly I watched it initially because of George Dolenz and Richard Burton, but I did end up liking it a lot. I'll get to the novel soon. Reading All the King's Men by Robert Warren Penn right now.

A Safe Place? I had the urge to revisit that one yesterday.

As for me, The Original Star Trek films will have to suffice.

Maybe, but i'm quite sure you can pre-order from the store and it will be 50% off.

I'll add to the list with The Complete Monterey Pop Festival.

There is the thematic connection between them, as well as a couple of the children from the orphanage in DB having cameos as soldiers in PL. The timelines match up so they do take place in the same universe.

Del Toro points it out in his commentary for PL.

I just emailed them now, I was waiting for the rest of my order to come in. The copies of Army of Shadows and Leon Morin Priest I ordered both came in fine.

Nice! That's a pretty good film. It's way better than A Safe Place and Drive, He Said.
