It honestly don't look as bad in the picture as it does in person.

I wouldn't have brought it up if it wasn't noticeable.

Breathless is $24.99, which would make it $19.99. Already going to buy that.

THere's some other movies that are decently priced that I was wondering if any of you guys had seen:

Les Cousins ($15.99 after coupon)
Zazie dans le Metro ($15.99)
La Promesse ($19.99)
Summer Interlude
La Beau Serge
Two-Lane Blacktop

Others I'm going to buy with bigger names are going to be reserved for the B&N sale.
La promesse is a must. The Dardennes are by far my favorite directors working in French language cinema.

I've been there so many times. My Last Year at Marienbad has a crease down the spine and I hate looking at it. As does my Godzilla Criterion. I'm still whining about my supposedly new Leon Morin with the cheap case and the slight tear on the booklet.

I've always wanted to start a thread about the title or titles that make your collection look bad, as in aesthetically speaking (maybe there already is one I dont know). Outside of those two I despise the size of my Marilyn Monroe blu set. It sticks out above everything else and I have no idea where to put it.

Yea, I'm OCD

I can't claim any thorough knowledge of contemporary French film and film makers but I think I'd put Assayas above the Dardennes.

I was about to say that!

Have you seen Boarding Gate? I'm expecting my copy to arrive later on in the week.

It would make a great addition to the Criterion label, especially if FOX is just going to sit on it.
Yes, generally on the same release, The Killers & The Lower Depths spring to mind. Doubt you'll be seeing Solaris (Soderbergh) in the collection, but you never know.

The Floating Weeds set has both the Ozu original and the '59 "remake".

If you want Sunrise, I would suggest ordering it from amazon.uk. I ordered the region free MOC from amazon.uk a couple of weeks ago along with a few other region free blu-rays. The order arrived a week later. It was my first MOC release and I could not be more pleased with the film and the presentation. MOC is every bit the equal of Criterion, and the price was very good. Having now tested the MOC waters, last week I went back to the well and ordered City Girl and Melville's Le Silence de la Mer, both of which I have never seen.
I completely agree with your comment. Le Silence de la Mer is a great blu ray. I enjoyed it more than Le Deuxième Souffle. MoC releases high quality blu rays, some region free.

rkish has many MoC and BFI blu rays and has recommended in getting a region 2 blu ray player in the past. There are some movies that will not be released here in states.

Also BFI has some fantastic blu rays. I highly recommend L'Age D'Or BFI blu ray.

Yes...the original film was called "A Story of Floating Weeds". Masters of Cinema released "Floating Weeds" on blu-ray, as BFI couldn't or didn't get the rights to the 1959 film. I would assume that BFI will get around to the 1934 film within the next year or so.

Le Samourai and Bob le Flambeur tie for his best film

Army of Shadows
Le Cercle Rouge
Leon Morin, priest
Le Silence de la mer
Un Flic
Le Doulos
Le Deuxième Souffle
Les Enfants terribles

There are three more films I have not seen Quand tu liras cette lettre,
Deux hommes dans Manhattan and L’Aîné des Ferchaux

His best films, in my opinion, have not been released on blu ray yet.

Does anyone else have a rank of Jean Pierre Melville's filmography? Or does everyone agree with this list.

It bothers me at times too. I've exchanged a couple items I've gotten from B&N's site because of reasons like these--creased spines, chipped cases..

I second this. I re-watched Le Doulos over the weekend and was reminded of how much I love it. Definitely one of my favorites.

Sorry I'm late to the party, but why would someone snag it out from under you? Is there a sale tomorrow or something?

I ordered Army of Shadows and Le Cercle Rouge from Amazon on 4/5 as well and neither have shipped. I talked with customer service recently and they said the items are back ordered (duh), but they do anticipate having them in stock and shipped during my delivery time frame (4/26-5/11). Take that FWIW.

is this region A friendly? I wish Criterion released a BD of this first since it was my introduction to Ozu. The "remake" not the first one and because of that experience I've been hooked on watching all of his films though I know I haven't seen all of them yet but he is one of my favorite directors and Ebert did the commentary for it and I agree with him on an excellent movie it is.
