I'm not sure what to think of Amazon anymore. I recently purchased a "Like New" copy of Marienbad through Amazon Warehouse Deals. It arrived today. To make a long story short, let's just say it looks anything but new. I'm not sure if I should keep it or not. (And I can't get to the actual bluray disc to see what it looks like, without removing a 2" diameter "Graded By Warehousedeals" sticker that's holding the inside package together. The sticker is on so tight, I'm afraid I might damage the package trying to get it off. Grrr ... nothing about buying these OOP titles seems to come easily).

rkish, I have not bought a region free blu ray player yet. I am planning to move to a different city in a couple months, so purchasing a region free blu ray has dropped in priority. Thanks again for the past advice.

In Dr. strangelove, there was a planned pie fight at the end of the movie. I think it was filmed but never made the cut.

I never buy like new items anymore from the Warehouse Deals because the last time I did, I spent a lot of money on an out of print box set and when it arrived, all four sides were split open and everything inside was creased or wrinkled. Needless to say, they allowed the return.

I finished watching the last of the James Bond Blu-rays in sequential order last night. That was so much fun, especially since I was seeing lifelong favorites in high definition for the first time. I am trying to catch up watching all of the Blu-rays in my collection, and I still have 39 movies left to enjoy, including the Criterions of Rosemary's Baby, Videodrome, Pierrot Le Fou, and Vivre Sa Vie.

Soon.

Thanks for the response.

Yeah, I'm still in "stewing mode" over here. If this wasn't OOP it would be going back for sure. But under the circumstances, I need to give it some thought. The copy I received reminds me of an old favorite paperback that was bouncing around in somebody's backpack from the moment they got it ... smushed corners, creases all over, kind of dingy looking.

Live and learn.

To end this post on a more positive note, I watched Army of Shadows a couple of days ago. I thought it was *excellent*! My first experience with J-P Melville.

I've had pretty good luck buying 'like new' recently.

I would put "Paths" at the top of the list, based on it's early impact, though 2001 will always be a special film for me.
My dad basically told me the same thing. He was 11 in 1968 and saw it in the theater. It really made a mark on him. He still has the soundtrack on LP.

I was a little older the first time he showed me 2001, maybe 14 or so.

The Shining was the first Kubrick film that I saw, and I watched it at an early age. It made quite an impression, and it remains my favorite Kubrick film by a long mile.

This, I'm surprised they haven't already. Had to study the film for a 20th Century British fiction and culture film.

Did you write anything on it? It's an utterly fascinating film. It was my first Antonioni and needless to say, a revelation.

I'd pay Twilight Time prices for this film.

I watched it for the first time several weeks ago and it didn't exactly vault to the top of my various wishlists.

Don't get me wrong, I can certainly see the appeal and would be very likely to pick it up if it were ever released. But based on my initial reactions I could live without it too.

Mine too, and I honestly can't remember much about what I wrote, as it was about 8 years ago. It was a 3rd year English seminar class, which I took in second year. From what I do remember, the prof kept going on about voyeurism, oedipius and electra complexes, Carl Jung, and feminism.

To be honest, I was kinda disappointed in the course as the prof kept confusing me with another student, and would always send me her marks, instead of my own. I also didn't agree with a lot of what she was saying, and thus my marks, when I actually got my own, suffered. We also didn't really do a lot of reading, and focused more on building websites for a trial program they were running that year. My friend, if I'm not mistaken, did do a website and essay on Blow Up. I'll have to ask her on Friday when she calls me.

That class was also my first introduction to DH Lawrence, as we had to read Sons and Lovers. I wasn't a fan of him then, nor did my enjoyment of Lawrence improve after reading the infamous Lady Chatterley's Lover back in February. I find him to be a bit of a bore, and totally unrealistic.

I can think of several other Antonioni's that I'd rather see (give me more Vitti), but I wouldn't mind it. The last shot is perfection.

Just purchased my first Antonioni film, Red Desert. This is solely due to all of the talk on this forum. Hope it delivers!
