Yeah, pretty unpopular opinion but I would like to see them release Moonrise Kingdom. I'm not blind to Wes Andersons flaws as a filmmaker, I simply don't care about them.

I like his movies and Criterion are the only ones who give them proper home media releases. Fantastic Mr. Fox and Moonrise Kingdom both look great, no complaints there, but they could do with more special features.

Fantastic Mr. Fox comes with an okay amount but Moonrise is in desperate need of more and it won't get that until Criterion releases it and I'm pretty sure they will eventually. That would be why Universal put basically no effort at all into special features.

I do enjoy Life Aquatic quite much, probably more than I should, but I also feel we've already got a bit too much Anderson in the Collection, IMO. The Life Aquatic and Rushmore are probably the only ones I enjoy, others are between oh dear and decent.

The Life Aquatic is my favourite so I'm looking forward to it but I agree. If other studios gave his films a loving treatment I wouldn't care who was releasing them.

Can you imagine other studios giving his films packages even half as good as the ones Criterion release? no. Because of that, I can't help hoping to see all of Wes Andersons work make it to the collection, not because I think it deserves to be in the Criterion Collection but because I personally like them, want to see them all get great transfers and excellent special features.

Oh! I just had a nice surprise - Found someone selling a bunch of used Criterion Blus locally.

Scored:

The Music Room
Stagecoach
Solaris
Smiles Of A Summer Night
Paris, Texas
High And Low
Blow Out
Lola Montes

All of which are unseen by me, and picked up at a very decent price!

That's probably all we'll get out of that film. Criterion should go for something fun like The Party.

Just a heads up: in the latest episode of the Cinephiliacs podcast, Peter Lebuza discusses Le Cercle Rouge with Vadim Rizov.

It was another "slideshow" of Audrey pics that BFI had a link to. If I can find it again, I'll send it on to you.

These might even be nicer pics than the previous link I sent.

Would love to hear some impressions of Ivan's Childhood. Been interested in picking it up. Battle of Algiers IMO is a must own. Awesome movie and one of the most realistic and authentic feeling movies ever made. Almost feels like a documentary.

Ivan's Childhood has some of the best visuals of any film in the Criterion Collection. The movie, about a young boy serving the Russian army in WWII, combines the brutal squalor of his wartime duties with idyllic memories of his life before the war to illustrate how war destroys innocence. It's a tragic, but oddly beautiful movie, and it looks incredible on Blu-ray.

Question for anyone - I want to order a couple of the case replacements for the early releases. I thought about shipping costs, and free shipping at $50. I generally don't buy Criterion titles until they're on sale (50% B&N, etc), and I'm wondering how often Criterion's store's half off sales are (when's the next?)?. I thought about picking up two of Criterion's cheaper titles (like 'Letter Never Sent') to qualify, but maybe I'd be better off just buying a gift certificate and using it whenever the half off sales occur. Just don't want to pay $7-8 shipping on a couple empty cases and sleeve inserts...

More than seeing a re-release of life aquatic of Steve Zissou, I would like to see more Jacques-Yves Cousteau documentaries on blu ray. I have fond memories watching Cousteau's films during my childhood.

There's a UNICEF speech of Audrey on YouTube. It could make a stone cry it's so genuine and heartfelt. I'm at work or I'd post the link.

Either one is great, and I consider both to be essential. If I had to go with one, I'd say Battle. But you might also check out the Shepitko Eclipse Series. Seriously, it is amazing. The Ascent is one of the best war movies I've ever seen, and I'd actually rank it above both Battle and Ivan's.
