The extras also include the short films, but they are grouped in chronological order with the feature films.

All in all, this release probably comes right after On the Waterfront. It is quite extraordinary.

Absolutely. California Dreaming is used brilliantly (and loudly, which is pretty cool) but Faye Wong's cover of Dreams is fantastic and perfectly fits that moment.

Ray Harryhausen passed away today.

I have been an enthusiastic fan of Ray Harryhausen's stop-motion effects since I saw Clash of the Titans at the theater in 1981 when I was nine years old.

When I was a kid I only knew that the monsters looked neat and I was ignorant of the people behind the scenes. Later on I found out about Willis O'Brien and Ray Harryhausen and how much they contributed to these films I cared so much about. Obie mentored Ray and Ray mentored other animators and it's good that stop-motion animation still continues today. Ray may be gone but I have some signed lobby cards on my wall so I'll continue to see him every day.

You couldn't place a Cranberries song? I would'nt have that problem. However, its very aggravating when you're wondering what's playing during a good film.

Yeah, Le Mépris is worth seeing. If you get the Studio Canal release and select America you'll get an English dub, so tell it you're in the UK and you'll get French audio and can have English subs, if you prefer. If it seems tedious, skip ahead to the scene in the apartment where the Javal's discuss their relationship while moving around inside the apartment. The apartment, their relationship and the camerawork are all very modern -- well, "modern" at the time the film was made.

I think Body and Soul and The Breaking Point are my two favorite Garfield films. Truthfully, I prefer TBP to it's more famous sibling To Have and Have Not. It's just is a tougher, grittier film to me. The final scene is absolutely heartbreaking.

I'm really on the fence with Body and Soul. I don't know what it is, but the plot description doesn't seem really up my alley.

Cranberries + Criterion =

When the Cantonese version came on in the movie, I couldn't help myself. I paused the flick, went to my home computer, which I've got hooked up to a receiver and my cherry JBLs, and put on Dreams, cranked really, really loud. Totally took me back to my high school days of the early/mid nineties.

Needless to say, I've had California Dreaming in my head all day today, which isn't in itself a bad thing, but the mental loop is stuck on "All the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey," which has me unfortunately feeling somewhat autumnal and morose amid a blossoming springtime (finally!) here in what has up until now been a chilly Midwest.
