The rest of the films in the set are indeed very good. And the box set is as classy as everything else Flicker Alley have released

I must have missed that announcement. Thank you!

In that same vein is Like Crazy, it's sort of an anti-500 Days.
I think I hate Like Crazy even more than (500) Days of Summer. The two main characters are so unbearably unlikable.

Lmao I forgot about the Dorian Gray part. That part was sooooo corny haha.

I am new to this forum, and more particularly, new to this Critteron collection. I would love to read every post on here but it is even too long for me to sort through to get some additional information that I am looking for.

I just started collecting blu-rays and I want check this collection out. I just recently started to like pre-80's movies and I wanted to know where I should start with this collection. I would like a movie that is visually stunning and something that has that cool feel to it. By visually stunning I don't mean special effects, just nice lighting, nice contast, and cool cinematography.

On a separate note, I am new to collecting blu ray movies. Since I am new to this, I have been getting a lot of movies that I like in the range of $5 to $9. I know that these movies are much more expensive but what is the general trend of the prices of these movies? Meaning are they steadily dropping the longer they are out? I may hold out if eventually these movies come down to $10 or so.

Sorry for the long post and sorry if this was already covered on a earlier post.

I know a lot of people who enjoy it, but I found it hard to suffer through. I don't know why I went back and tried to give it a second chance.

you can get $10 criterions at Barnes and Noble with coupons during their sales. I've done it for years

That's entirely YMMV though. I've only done that a few times and it was never as easy as everyone says.

i never used B&N .. (well we dont have that shop in germany) but there homepage tells me there is a membership fee each year. so for some people it might not be worth it. (if he wants only 1-2 cheap criterion movies)

(since i have to use ebay/amazon to import criterion movies i usually pay like 33,55$ (rashomon) 32$(branded to kill) for each movie) ^^

yuck, importing from the U.S. is a bit of killer. I've never paid above $14 for a criterion.

I'm somewhat of a Criterion newbie myself. With that said, any Criterion will display top notch audio & picture quality. What types of films do you enjoy and maybe some folks can make some recommendations?

Just to put my two cents into the (500) days of Summer and Like Crazy pool.

I did enjoy (500) days when I saw it in theaters. I even went as far as purchasing it. I don't think I've watched it again though. My favorite scene in the movie is easily the Huey Lewis dance number. That was really well done. My fiance can't stand the movie either and although she likes Zooey, she's a ***** in that movie. 6/10

Like Crazy is almost like that, but even more melancholy. I thought Felicity Jones was fantastic and I can't wait to see her in more films. Other than that though...I thought the trailer was better than the entire movie. I guess I also admired the fact that it was shot mostly with Canon DSLR's. I had recently bought and shot a short film of my own with one of those cameras, so it was really cool to see what could be accomplished. 5/10

Sound will be difficult since most of the films in the collection aren't sound system destroyers. If you don't care how many channels they actually output then the sound from the available channels should be fantastic.

In The Mood For Love - incredible cinematics and wonderful score
Rosemary's Baby
Koyaanisqatsi - although that is in the Qatsi trilogy and a little more expensive
Badlands
The Game

Mostly any recent film (aka after the 80's which isn't what your looking for) will have the best sound and picture. It's mostly dependent on the era of course.

The Criterions that would fit your "criteria" would be: Solaris, Days of Heaven, Badlands, Paris, Texas, The Red Shoes, Black Narcissus, Letter Never Sent, Heaven's Gate, Army of Shadows, The Leopard, Purple Noon, Kagemusha.

I would classify all of these as visually stunning, some are from the 1980s but that shouldn't stop you, I could name a lot more, but I think this is a good start.

I wouldn't hold my breath. They've released what 1 or 2 RegionA films in the last 2 years? There is a long list of Criterion titles that went OOP in 2010 that still have yet to be released. Personally I'm still waiting on Clouzet's The Raven (Le corbeau) to be released someday. Hopefully.
