No, not yet. Only her boyfriend is considering making changes because of the impending downturn. Remember that the film takes place during the debates of 2008, i.e. just before things started to go south.

Hopefully it's a hint that we'll get a Picnic At Hanging Rock announcement Wednesday.
Very excited for this. It's a great film, right?

I look forward to reading it.

Magic Mike was decent and a lot better than I expected. I haven't seen the Ocean films in a while, but if I recall correctly, they were decent enough. Otherwise, I didn't really like The Girlfriend Experience or Sex, Lies, and Videotape.

I have a few other ones (Che, Erin Brockovich, and soon Side Effects), but I haven't seen them yet.
Che might be his finest achievement. I also loved Side Effects. I'm actually more taken by his recent work than his earlier stuff. My top five of his would be:

1. Che
2. Out of Sight
3. Contagion
4. Magic Mike
5. Side Effects

Despite how inconsistent his filmography may be, he's still one of the best contemporary American film makers.

Great doesn't even begin to describe Picnic. It's pretty much as good as it gets.

It's a good film, if you like Peter Weir's "eerie" phase before he went Hollywood.
The Australians still snicker at our late-70's pre-Mad Max image of all Australian cinema from "My Brilliant Career" to "Gallipoli" as highbrow "Downton Abbey in the Outback", though. Wouldn't think they consider it an embarrassment today, but they symbolically give the movie SO much whipping-boy guff in the "Not Exactly Hollywood" documentary.

Yes indeed. I saw on TCM a couple years back and was extremely impressed. In some ways it mirror's Antonioni's L'Avventura: the disappearance, the mystery, the rapturous imagery.

If Peter Weir's The Last Wave also gets a release, I will be speachless.

If Criterion upgrades Picnic at Hanging Rock to Blu-ray, then I will love them forever unless they do something later on that ticks me off. Picnic at Hanging Rock is a tremendous film that makes a fine double feature with Walkabout.

The Last Wave is another classic, of course.

Peter Weir's The Way Back is a criminally underrated film in my book, and it looks amazing on Blu-ray.

Yes it is, The Way Back is a hidden gem. I didn't know he did Picnic At Hanging Rock, that has spiked my interest considerably.

Walkabout was actually the very first Criterion I ever purchased.

Great choice! I had the initial Criterion DVD edition of Walkabout from a decade or so ago before the film was restored, so the Blu-ray was a huge improvement for me.

I wish that Criterion would pick up Don't Look Now.

On the subject of great-looking Blu-rays, I'm watching North by Northwest now. This one is a revelation in the format.
I plan to watch Rebecca sometime tomorrow, then Spellbound on Sunday, perhaps.

Little Tidbit: Tony Scott held Roeg in high reverence. The crosscutting in his films recalls that of the opening of Walkabout and Performance (another great flick).

I absolutely love this film. It is impeccably paced. It also features a young Jacki Weaver from recent Animal Kingdom and Silver Linings Playbook fame.

Love it too. Let me see if I can find what I wrote about it last January in this thread...

I was wondering is there a specific reason the BRD trilogy is OOP or is there a chance that a re-release on Blu-Ray is possible? Figured I'd ask before I looked into picking up the current dvd version down the road.

Criterion at one point mentioned it was going to be re-released, but it was a while back and there's been no follow-up news on it. I'm really anxious for an upgrade, myself.

Good to know because the cheapest copy of the dvd on Amazon is $129 for a "Used- Very Good" condition copy.

With the above discussion of Steven Soderbergh's work I would have to put his remake of Solaris in his top 5. I think Viola Davis is awesome in the film. I just would love for Criterion to do a special edition for the film on BLU. I would love to see the alternate editing of some of the footage etc that was slightly discussed on the DVD commentary track. Some may hate the movie but it isn't bad.

For one of his experimental films as it were... Bubble is quite interesting, and at times too real in some ways. (I grew up in WV... so a lot of it felt authentic IMO)

Side Effects was good... totally different than the trailer from what I recall which I loved. I try to avoid trailers until after I see a film... so Side Effects exceeded my expectations and also a great role for Jude Law.

Was quite disappointed when I saw that Angels with Dirty Faces would be not included as it was in the DVD version of the set.

Just recently saw On the Waterfront and 12 Angry Men for the first time. Added them to my list of movies to buy.

Anatomy of Murder is one I want to see next.

North by Northwest is one of the best-looking Blu-rays in my collection. Amazing. One of my all-time top ten movies is that much better now. This would make a fine Eva Marie Saint double feature with On the Waterfront. That won't happen tonight, though, since I'm finishing the unwatched Blu-rays left to watch. I'm about to watch Airport. Here's to 1970s disaster films.
