It would be interesting to see what the OOP film's pricing will be like over a year from now when availability of the rest of the OOP ones will be more of an issue. Perhaps once one of the other films becomes more rare, it will rise to that position of most-sought-after.

I have a feeling that the Jean-Pierre Melville Criterion films that have gone out of print recently will soon be extremely sought after. Five out of eight Melville Criterion-distributed films are now OOP including Bob le Flambeur, Léon Morin, Priest, , Le Doulos, Army of Shadows and Le Cercle Rouge. Yet, how come the remaining Melville films (Les Enfants Terribles, Le Deuxième Souffle, Le Samouraï) are still in print? I am guessing that Studiocanal doesn't own the rights to those titles somehow?

hahaha...I've seen where people are assuming a set will be an Eclipse set, and then they just give us a nice big Blu ray set instead. I wonder what their source is for the info.

Not to mention hasn't Criterion previously stated they are considering blu-ray eclipse sets?

Mafioso (DVD) (OOP): Bought it for $25 at DVDEmpire.com, non-sale
Léon Morin, Priest (BD) (OOP): Bought it for $20 at Amazon, sale

That is pretty awesome and I consider you very lucky for pulling that off. As for me.....

The Man Who Fell To Earth: Auctioned off an item on ebay that gave me the capital to purchase this for $190 of paypal money.
Chungking Express won on ebay for $55.
Army of Shadows purchased on Amazon for 20.
Léon Morin, Priest purchased used on Amazon for 20

My luck was bad at first and better recently.

I do not know. I would think to keep the consistency of the price and the ability to house 3-5 movies together for movies that they don't have the proper elements for a remaster, they would need to stay a DVD only line.

We have the inexpensive, extra-free, lower MSRP Blu rays, like The Makioka Sisters and Letter Never Sent, which are essentially the same thing, only these were able to be restored or remastered enough to make a difference for Blu.

I hope it means a blu-ray upgrade. It is the first Wes Anderson movie I saw and I remember really liking it.

They're insufferable. You'll get the title. Calm down. It's one god damn title. It doesn't discredit the entire month of (probably) better films. They don't owe you a thing.

It doesn't make any sense to release all the titles with the largest mainstream popularity at once - it makes much more business sense to spread those out. Not too thin, but reasonably so. Not to even get into the logistics side in regards to progress on whatever remastering is going on and how far along the supplements package is.

I don't mind people being excited and asking for a title. But I agree with some of the posters here - there is a line between excitement, and being rude and shitting all over the other titles that Criterion does excellent work on.
