Congratulations! That's a big milestone in life, so take in every moment to the fullest!

I graduated from high school in 1990, so I'm a geezer around these parts. Many of you were not even born when I graduated from high school...ouch. After the graduation ceremony, I spent some time with friends at a get-together that night, then woke up a couple hours later at 5:30 AM to begin my shift at McDonald's to earn summer pay for college. I kept myself from falling to sleep on the way to work by blasting a cassette tape of Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine in my car. Ahhhh....memories.

Just to keep this Criterion related, Dazed and Confused does remind me of that occasion.

Thanks!

I am still riding high on the experience of seeing The Leopard for the first time. I am so glad that I shelled out for that Criterion at long last. I could probably obsess over this movie for a month and revisit it daily.

I love the Italian countryside in 1960s cinema. This Visconti film anticipates the sprawl of the Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns, and the visage of those stone buildings in the vastness of wide open spaces just excites my imagination.

Burt Lancaster is such a cinematic presence, Alain Delon is mesmerizing to watch, and Cardinale is a true beauty. Even the minor characters in the film are infinitely memorable, though.

I graduated from high school in 1980, so the time Dazed and Confused took place I was the same age as the kids graduating from junior high. It was like watching a home movie for me!

The funny thing is that, although I graduated from high school in 1990, I saw quite a lot of the high school crowd during the actual late 1970s. My parents were both high school teachers when I was in elementary school, so I would take the bus route to the high school and hang out while waiting for my parents to get off work. The scenarios, the dress styles, and the attitudes of the kids in Dazed and Confused all looked familiar to me, and I even remembered hearing a lot of the same music during those days in my childhood. My father was a head football coach, so he even wore the same coaching shorts and outfits that the coaches in Dazed and Confused wore. I was even told several times that I needed an "attitude adjustment." It's funny how high school football coaches are all alike no matter where you are.

Mud actually got a wide release, so I can't complain there. The Palme d'Or winning film usually gets a fairly swift release, so I bet we'll see it before the year's end. I hope the same can be said for Kore-eda's film.

Congratulations! I can't speak on behalf of the film, but I am sure it is notable because Sid & Nancy is an excellent movie (same director).

-enjoy!

I love that box set. It took me ages to finally buy this in pristine format after Barnes & Noble tried 3 times to ship this box set to me. After 3 times I finally gave up. I won't pay money for a product that is damaged through shipping when I can buy this on Amazon and have it delivered to me in mint condition. And that is just what I did. I bought the blu-ray version of America Lost and Found: The BBS Story for around $60. I loved Head but I don't consider this a "concert music documentary", but more of a "musical" or music "film" such as Quadrophenia. A "concert music documentary" or "live concert film" I guess I could say is like Stop Making Sense which is mostly the actual performance and not music intercut with archival footage and interview clips.

*I have heard rumors about CC renewing the rights for Playtime, but I could be wrong...
I've thought about getting the StudioCanal release of The Third Man, but I'm anal like a few on here and would rather have the Criterion release. Lol Idk, we'll see. $100 is about all I'm willing to pay for it.

After reading your comment about Playtime, I did a little searching over at CC and its being speculated that it would most likely get another Criterion re-release, supposedly confirmed by John Mulvaney himself. I may hold off on this title. The term being used over there for Playtime is its on hiatus.

Class of '73 here. So the era of Dazed and Confused took place a little bit after my high school years. I can relate to that era very well ... except I think my class partied even hardier than what the movie depicts. I say that not sure whether that's something to be proud of or not, but it was the thing to do at the time. It's how it was where I lived (... small town USA, I suppose).

Congrats to all the graduates.

EDIT: Just saw your post, hoytereden. Looks like we're on the same wave length tonight.

Yes! Why aren't there Senior Discounts for stuff that matters?! Forget breakfast @ Denny's, I'd take a Criterion Blu-(ray) Plate Special any day instead.

Here's a really cool video of Spielberg talking about the Palm d'Or winner. Worth watching if you have some time to kill.

Cristian Mungiu is so well spoken. I could listen to him speak about cinema for hours. I'd love for Criterion to pick up 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. That desperately needs a blu-ray release.

Speaking of Dazed, I picked it up today at the B&N sale. My first Criterion title. I eyeball the Third Man Criterion release every week. It will be mine one day.

They have it at your BN store? If so, that's really foolish if you haven't picked it up yet, as used copies go for $100+ and new are almost $200. lol.

I'm glad you said that, because if they had it in store near you, I was about ready to hop in my car and seek it out. And I live a couple of hours away!
