I thought it was ONE copy of AK 100 (which has 25 films). Where did they say 25 copies?

I think the OP stated it incorrectly. From what I've read on Criterion's site and in the newsletter, it is only 1 set, McCrutchy.

I have completely moved my Criterion purchasing over to their site in recent months, and with their excellent service and shipping, I'm never looking back. (plus they get all the money which supports them even more, instead of Amazon etc. taking a cut.)
I'm doing the same, at least for the releases through June. Even with Amazon Prime I saved movey.

Good evening,

I thank you both for the kind words, but I don't believe I have deserved them.

The studio's terrific team -- Lee Kline, Maria Palazzola, Kim Hendrikson, David Phillips, Angie Bucknell, Bret Sharlow, Brian McCreight, Ryan Hullings, Staphane Pecharman, Matt Harris, etc -- should be the only recipient of these congratulations. These are the people who make these terrific releases possible, and they are the only ones that our community should recognize.

Finally, it means a lot that you continue to support Criterion by buying their releases - every sale counts. Remember, without your enthusiastic support, Criterion would have never moved to releasing 5 titles per month.

So, congratulations to you, the true enthusiasts!

Pro-B

FINALLY I get the praise I've deserved for years...

Just FYI, the ominous Dragon Dynasty release of John Woo's The Killer has been confirmed by DVDBeaver to fail on every front--<18 GB for the film, 1080i, PAL speed-up (from source), heavy DNR, 5.1 lossy English DUB vs. 2.0 lossy Catonese as audio options, and extras culled from previous DVDs.

In other news...

I hope to finally add The Killer to my Criterion Collection shortly. A highly reputable Amazon Marketplace seller has a copy in supposedly "Like New" condition which I literally just bought for just over $45--money well spent as far as I'm concerned, as I finally took the plunge on an OOP Criterion I've wanted for years.

oops, sorry. i re-read it and yes it is only ONE copy =P. AK25 is confusing .

BTW I watched a 'freshly minted' 35mm of Ran on the big screen at a local art house and it was GLORIOUS (the film content). but the film negative exhibited the same exact problems as my copy of studio canal BD, DVD, etc.

do you guys know if Studio Canal owns the THEATRICAL distributions rights in the US as well as home video? the reason i ask is how can Criterion do it any better if they have obtain a 'legitimate' source (film negative)?

we all know that Criterion does great jobs selecting the best looking print... but what if the best looking is what we have NOW? just curious as to how Ran Criterion BD might have looked vs. SC's copy. does any1 know who owns the original 35mm film source to make blu-rays from?

You would be making a mistake. Regardless of what Gary claims, Criterion's SDVD release isn't better than the new BD, 1080i or not.

Exactly what I've been professing for months in terms of the hatred for SC and them "stealing" Ran from Criterion. The fact that we never saw what Criterion would do with it is reason enough to give SC the benefit of the doubt, as their other releases have been of mostly great quality, so I believe it was reasonable to give them the benefit on this release as well. Until (if ever) a better quality print is exhibited of Ran, I think it pertinent to accept that the StudioCanal release of Ran is of an acceptable quality, and rather undeserving of the negativity that currently surrounds it. End Rant......

Just 3 quick questions about pre-ordering from Criterion directly.

1) Are they shipping items BEFORE the release date? Say, the Thursday before, or something like that, so that we can receive them on Tuesday?

2) Like Amazon, are they only charging the credit card when preparing to ship?

3) Are they shipping USPS Priority? Or normal? I'm in Canada and i'm wondering how much transit time it would take.

Thanks!
