General rule of thumb, on any list of Criterions, start with the oldest B/W first.

(And that goes for the "Did Chris Nolan do any Criterions? " fanboy, too.)

Says who? It's still OOP on the Criterion site.

Weekend is as close to a masterpiece as contemporary Queer Cinema has gotten. 12 Angry Men is a given.

Maybe he means that because it's going to be re-released.

I think Weekend is the best film on that list.

I want Pierre Etaix and Medium Cool... and in addition I was trying to decide between Naked Lunch, Life is Sweet, Gate of Hell, A Man Escaped or The Blob.

I'm still on the fence about that Etaix set, but I'll grab it eventually. Naked Lunch would be my choice of all those, but I love nearly all of Cronenberg's work.

I think the film perfectly bridges the gap between his earlier effects driven work and his more recent dramatic efforts. The film has a documentary on the making of that, while dated, is still really fantastic.

A Man Escaped is fantastic, but Naked Lunch seems more up your alley

I've been waiting for this, but after going overboard with the last U&S at Best Buy...I think I'll hold off for longer. It's not like these sales won't happen again.

There's still a Playtime at the Barnes & Noble near my office, but I'm waiting for the eventual release of the most recent restoration. I'm sure that I'll love it, but I'm sure that I'll love it even more upon its release with the best possible presentation.

I'm about to start watching Five Easy Pieces.

Criterion doesn't list it as OOP anymore. I think you're safe.

The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
On the Waterfront
Badlands
Monsieur Verdoux
Medium Cool

I'm waiting for Lola Montes and Sweet Smell of Success to decrease so I can buy them as well.
