Right, need an opinion on these, which of the following should I get? I'm only allowed to get one, which one shall it be?

Rosemary's Baby
Tiny Furniture
Blow Out
Badlands
Following
Quadrophenia
12 Angry Men
Le Havre
The Gold Rush
The Game
Bottle Rocket
Shallow Grave
The Darjeeling Ltd.
The Royal Tenenbaums
Modern Times

World on a Wire is a more straight-forward, traditional narrative. It's really, really well done and also very interesting. It's a mix of straight sci-fi, seventies conspiracy movies and a dash or two of noir.

Think Doctor Who (Tom Baker, of course) meets The Conversation meets Chinatown.

They both look fantastic and they're both the kind of sci-fi the world could use a lot more of.
Thanks for the opinion, octagon. I ended up getting World on a Wire. If the sale is still going on next week, I might pick up Solaris.

I just got Videodrome and Naked Lunch delivered yesterday. Blow Out, Naked, and World on a Wire are on their way. All blind buys!

I suggest Modern Times or The Gold Rush. Both are captivating comedies that make you think, with unusually good PQ considering how old they are. Chaplin is a must imho.

Right, I've narrowed it down, still need people to agree on what to get:

Modern Times
Rushmore

One of them two, I'd love to get both but I only have $28 on a gift card, only enough for one shipped to UK

I was going to say Blow Out too, but of those two, Modern Times, by a mile.

Decided to watch The Killing last night on my Kindle using Amazon Prime (no charge). I didn't see any rewatchability (is that even a word) in it. Nice film, but just not my cup of tea to own.

On the other hand, however, I started streaming The Night of the Hunter after watching The Killing, and man-o-man, what a great film. I only got to the part where Robert Mitchum gets to the town before my battery died (and it was midnight anyway). I absolutely love it so far. This is a definite must buy!

Haven't seen much talk about Sweet Smell of Success, but that looks like a good one. I really like Tony Curtis and Bert Lancaster. I'll probably end up getting this one.

Also eyeing Blow Out. Mixed reviews, but seems up my alley.

I'm just discovering Criterions, and I really like reading everyone's thoughts on different movies. So far I've picked up:

12 Angry Men (one of my all-time favorite movies)
Anatomy of a Murder
Badlands
The Game
On the Waterfront
A Night to Remember
Repo Man
Rosemary's Baby

Soon to come:
Blow Out
The Night of the Hunter
Paths of Glory
Sweet Smell of Success

I'm really glad I had gift cards and reward points to pay for all these

Lee Remick, who played the wife in Anatomy of a Murder, plays a bank teller who is victimized by a relentless criminal in Experiment in Terror. Glenn Ford, who is also featured in the Criterion Collection in the recent 3:10 to Yuma release, plays a detective who assists Remick in the brutal cat-and-mouse game.
Experiment in Terror moves effortlessly fast for a 1962 movie, and the tension never lets up. It's a great little thriller, and a pivotal scene in the movie was a big influence on the first Dirty Harry film.

I'm not sure how many copies of Experiment in Terror are left, but there are still a few available, so it's good to bring it to everyone's attention.

Cool avatar, by the way. Darkness on the Edge of Town is such a great album. My favorite Bruce Springsteen album is probably Nebraska, but Darkness is right up there.

For Robert Mitchum, I think he's most villainous in "Cape Fear," 1962. He's somewhat of a victim in "Out of the Past," which is another old movie I'm waiting for. I've seen "Night of the Hunter," and it's a good movie, but don't want to buy it.

add: "River of No Return" is also good, but I may buy it because it's got Marilyn Monroe.

Years ago, after I saw The Night of the Hunter for the first time on DVD, I read the 1953 novel by Davis Grubb. It's a great Southern Gothic novel, and the movie is quite faithful while managing to stand out on its own terms.

Re: Robert Mitchum

Pursued is another excellent Olive release. Directed by maestro Raoul Walsh, it's a visually arresting Western noir.
