Oh yes. I'm still debating on whether to watch Love Crime (2010) first or not (the source material).

I'm just going to watch the DePalma version as I want it to hit with maximum effect.

Blind buying is not because it's the only way to see it. It's because one doesn't want to take 2 hours to watch it online or rent it. I know some of these films can't be rented easily, but the majority are online for cheap.

And wow. I'm lucky to live in TN where I can catch a film for $5.50 matinee. I would never go for $20 I don't care what's playing.
Is his position really invalid or do you simply mean you don't feel the same way? Those aren't necessarily the same thing, you know.

Given how short release windows have become one can easily wait a month or two to legally rent a film, can't one?

And how exactly does one determine that the difference between watching on a BIG screen and watching at home is magical whereas the difference between a BD and Hulu is trivial? Iis there an objective test one might apply or is that merely a matter of personal taste?

For what it's worth, I thought that Love Crime was a fun little film, and I'd love to see a Blu-ray upgrade on these shores.

I'm a big fan of Ludivine Sagnier, and that's what drew me in. Kristin Scott Thomas is quite amazing in the film as well, though.

This is not a classic by any stretch, but it kept me interested.

EDIT: I did not realize that Passion was a remake of Love Crime. Neato.

There is also The Cars That Ate Paris. That is about as "interesting" as you can get.

In all seriousness, though, I am eager for a Picnic upgrade, and Master and Commander is one I revisit frequently.

You are lucky. It is between $9-12 for even an afternoon showing (they have done away with matinees apparently). Taking the s/o gets expensive fast.

When compared to buying a criterion blu-ray and reselling it for about $5 less than I bought it for, after I watch it as many times as I would like at my leisure on my nice television, going to the movies is a really bad deal.

If they do announce a De Palma film, it'll be Obsession or Sisters.

You guys have convinced me to get Hulu Plus again. Excited to see that La Haine is on there. I can blind buy Oz the Great and Powerful and pay for a month of Hulu Plus for the price of a new Criterion during the current sale. So I'll be checking out some new films on there instead.

Please not Obsession. The UK Region Free release is more than adequate. (Which I have two copies of)

Didn't they say Sisters wouldn't be happening any time soon?

I agree. With all of the great titles still to get a Blu-ray release, Obsession can wait...specially, with the region free Arrow release to be had.

I plan on getting Hulu plus soon.

As far as blind-buying goes, I'd be lying if I said I hadn't done it many times. Actually, as far as buying the entire 'collection' is concerned, I look at it as a sort of homework...... you don't always appreciate it initially, but you can often look back and be glad you did. You have to watch all of the films though, which may be a key component many are missing who buy for other reasons (to make a nice looking shelf for instance)

Paulette Goddard for the win.

I haven't been able to stop thinking about Modern Times and how well she performed next to a great like Chaplin.

That might be too many Holocaust films in a short amount of time, but they were paired releases when they came out originally. (Spines 196/7) I should mention I would really like this upgrade as well. I love Resnais' work.
I've mostly counted George Washington out because of how many times I've been shut down by people saying it likely wouldn't happen. I would ecstatic if it did.

I wouldn't mind twin upgrades of Hiroshima and Night and Fog. While I couldn't see myself watching the latter that many times (the one time I did was devastating), but seeing it in a more admirable presentation would certainly be something.

Although for me Weir is not just interesting but great. One of my top 5 directors of all time.

To add to your list: The Year of Living Dangerously, Witness, Mosquito Coast, Dead Poets Society, Green Card, and Fearless. All wonderful films imho with great replay value. Wish they all could be CC titles.

Just finished watching House, what a trip. A truly interesting and extremely exciting cult film. I highly suggest anyone on the fence about buying to pick it up at once.

This is the first Criterion title I ever bought, and the first I ever watched with the knowledge that it was part of the collection. Such a wild film and one that I need to upgrade at some point.

All the colors really pop on the Blu, great transfer by criterion.

Blind-buying Criterion is half the fun!!

If you know the director, the time period, and maybe see a few screenshots just to get a taste, you can really make educated purchases.

I haven't ever felt like I was screwed, and the great thing about CC is that you can resell it.

As for the next wave, I have to admit that I'm in the Le Samourai boat. That would be really sweet.
