Can someone explain to me why in the Slacker and Rossellini sets there are some bonus features that are listed as 'DVD Only'?

Seriously - Who made that decision?

For the Rossellini set, it looks like the extras are configured differently between the DVD and BD sets. They should all be there, but some extras are on the BD disc for one film while the same extra is on the DVD of a different film. I guess it depends on wherever space was available.

For Slacker, some BD re-releases have been known to streamline some extras like text and image heavy galleries get turned into featurettes and new visual essays. I don't see any indication that they're reworking those lost extras into new content, so I guess with this title they're just dropping the extras that might be more difficult to author.

Nice list, Pro-B. Here are a few to add and they're all from the same director:
Bicycle Thieves (region A)
Garden of the Finzi-Continis
A Brief Vacation
Miracle in Milan (region A)
Shoeshine
The Children Are Watching Us

Every one of these would be perfect for Criterion, a couple of them they have already done on DVD.

VERY excited for the Rossellini/Bergman set! I've wanted to see Europa 51 for a while and was bummed to see it's OOP, thank you Criterion! I'm sure I'll love the others as well. Will likely be a three-way blind buy unless I'm somehow able to see em before then, but I am pretty confident I'll be pleased with this purchase!

I saw La Cage aux Folles like 10 years ago and wasn't that into it, but I'll give it another try and rent it before. Though IMO Weekend is the be-all and end-all of all gay cinema, hard to watch anything else.

Is anyone here thinking its more than a coincidence that we have Ingmar Bergman and Ingrid Bergman releases coming out in September?

I mean, I'm sure some people get Ingrid and Ingmar a bit confused. Ha.

Heads up for anyone who doesn't want to wait a few more weeks, but with the current online prices and the $5 off $50 code (B7E4T9B), I just was able to order these for about $19.26 each from the Barnes & Nobles 3 for 2 sale (with Membership):

Marketa Lazarova
Safety Last!
Things to Come

Now if only someone would sell Wild Strawberries for $20.

I read people's predictions and hopes every month and it seems like every time there's an announcement, next to none are in the list. I like Ingrid Bergman, but what a boring announcement. There's a lot of films in the criterion collection I'm yet to see that sound absolutely amazing but I want to wait until Criteriom actually releases them on blu-ray before watching them because I'm almost certain that I will love them. Criterion are making that very difficult.

I hate to sound ignorant or lame compared to everyone who is excited about these and are more artistic than I, but I was really hoping for more film noir, classic silent cinema, more American classics, more contemporary, edgy stuff, maybe even a horror title. Like other have mentioned, I wish Criterion would please upgrade more of their titles or grab more beloved classics.

Don't worry. While I'll admit that the Noir, 50s-60s-70s American Cinema, Horror etc. is usually the titles that excite me the most, each month is always filled with worthy titles.

As far as what you want to see, I'd lay odds that October gives us horror and more. I have no idea, but my guess would be Eraserhead, Scanners, maybe The Brood. We'll see however.

Well if we're talking only the Criterion collection then the Jean Cocteau, Paul Morrissey, Derek Jarman, Gus Van Sant movies and also literary adaptions of William Burroughs and Tennessee Williams probably qualify yards as definitive and popular gay cinema over Weekend or Birdcage.

"Gay cinema" was a poor choice of words on my part, I meant Weekend as the definitive film about specifically the gay experience, not "gay cinema" in a broader sense as a movie with a gay couple. Mulholland Drive probably is the best movie with a gay couple.

I didn't know there was a director Fassbinder til a few months ago. I always assumed people were talking about the actor Michael Fassbender :P

And I left Fassbinder off the list!

How many of you even consciously think of THE NAKED LUNCH as gay autobiography?

Im with you on that..Im not into these artsy films one bit - but Ingrid Bergman is also of interest me. Im certain next month there will be Cronenberg set for Halloween, probably Eraserhead but there are some great American classics, Noirs, not just Hitchcock but movies such In A Lonely Place (they are rumored to have) , Carnival of Souls, The Killers , Great Expectations, Thief of Bagdad. I am thankful they have released Kiss Me Deadly, The Killing, Anatomy of A Murder and hope they will release more like this in the future.
