I bought these online.

My self-control lapsed again, and I was going to order Safety Last, Marketa Lazarová, and The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp using the same method, but Barnes & Noble would not let me use the coupon again. I deleted these three from my cart. I'll get them at a later date, though.

Well, I've never been a big Sci-Fi fan, so I'll give it a try.

Briefly ...

I want more films like that, actually..since I feel as if there haven't been as many as the other kind.

The cover art for Things To Come totally rocks my face.

I'm glad that I stumbled across the aforementioned Barnes & Noble prices this morning, because I've been wanting to see Things To Come since childhood, and I was fighting the temptation to buy it in person later today. I can wait a while until it shows up in my mailbox.

It's mostly interesting on a visual level and as a sort of epic "history of the future", the characters are total cardboard and inclined to a lot of didactic speechifying.

Why would you drop $28+ for something you probably won't like?

As far as sci fi, the best of the genre (Solaris, 2001, Blade Runner, Strange Days & AI) provides a chance to look beyond into political, sociological and spiritual issues. It's the genre for dreamers when done right. I think it's just gotten a bad rap now that since Star Wars, SciFi is equivalent to spectacle. For me it's all about ideas.

iScottie and CoopFilm get F's in the FilmVice Final Exam.

I'm not absolutely sure. Granted, it's bloated with supplements and extras - I'll give high marks for it. The only major question mark I have is the film quality when it comes to the story.

On a separate note, Slacker and Tiny Furniture are fairly identical in relating with the story about their post-collegiate life. In other words, they started to explore the "real world" after they graduated from college. Slacker was filmed by a 16mm at a cost of $3,000.00, while Tiny Furniture used Canon EOS 7D camera for filming. Lastly, I know the film critics gave a thumbs down on the latter, so you think the former faces the same negative treatment?
Slacker isn't really about post-collegiate life. It's just an assemblage of weirdos from Austin. I see zero similarities in the two films. Not to mention, Slacker is unique and entertaining, especially for 1991.

When I first acquired a Blu-ray player, I told myself that I was not going to bother upgrading my DVD of Slacker. I changed my mind as soon as I watched the Blu-ray of Dazed and Confused. The two films are not quite equally conducive to high definition viewing, but the experience was a good shot in the arm for my enthusiasm of Linklater films.

Slacker made quite a splash when I was in college during the early 1990s, and, although there's not much of a "story", per se, it's a glorious nostalgic ode to the more offbeat tendencies of that decade.

Slacker would make a fine double feature with the 1994 Ben Stiller film, Reality Bites.

I love Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, although I haven't seen them in ages. I'll probably wait until the three films are available on Blu-ray before I catch Before Midnight, though.

I've never seen the animated Linklater films.

Linklater's catalogue is a mixed bag for me. The films range from outstanding (Slacker, Dazed and Confused, Before Sunrise) to decidedly not outstanding (The Newton Boys).

I wouldn't mind seeing a Blu-ray release of SubUrbia.

Safety Last! is such a treat. I think I enjoyed it more than any Chaplin I've seen (save for Modern Times). I've not got time to delve into the Supplements before work, but I'm going to watch the shorts when I get back in. Hopefully I'll watch Things to Come tomorrow, but I just got the Hitchcock three pack yesterday, so I might break that out instead.

Dazed and Confused is about as good as 90's high school comedies get.

•Dazed and Confused
•Waking Life

Are the two I can reccomend fully, the rest I am either mixed on (Scanner Darkly, Slacker, etc) or am cautious to reccomend (two very nice films he made with Jack Black, Bernie and School of Rock).

I've always been on the fence with A Scanner Darkly because I didn't really like the Animatrix (stupid way to evaluate it, but it looks similar and both have Keanu Reeves).
