I'm 2 hours into the Thin Red Line and I must say this is one incredible film. I'm enjoying this much more than Badlands and The Tree of Life.

Easily his best film next to Days of heaven in my opinion, both are so beautiful.

It's gonna be a very Shakespeare weekend. Have all these lined up to watch:

Coriolanus
Orson Welles' Macbeth
Julius Casear
Richard III
Joss Whedon's Much ado about Nothing

The Thin Red Line + Badlands + Days of Heaven =

Oh dont get me wrong I love all his movies, But for me seeing Days of Heaven and then Badlands, Days of Heaven is just a few steps ahead where he really found his artistic niche I think...and I havent even seen the Criterion version of Badlands yet

It's so hard to rank Malick's films because they're all good.

I didn't mention The New World because their intent was on picking up Criterion titles. I prefer Days of Heaven (and the Tree of Life) to the New World, but it's also the only Malick film I've only seen once.

My all time favorite film. Glad to hear you're enjoying it, it's a surreal experience.

I remember starting Coriolanus back in December and only making it through half an hour. Mind you, it was on a 20+ hour road trip and had to be my fifth or sixth of the trip.

I finished it now. I am completely in awe by the way this movie impacted me. Definitely the best Malick film I've seen.

(I still need to watch Days of Heaven, The New World, and To The Wonder)

I honestly wished this film wouldn't have had been cut so much because I would have loved to see the whole 5 hours of footage that was filmed. Hans Zimmer's best score of the 90s. I didn't know Zimmer did the score until the credits but I knew it resembled the Dark Knight score. Terrence Malick is becoming one of my favorite directors of all time. I'm blown away by the imagery this film consistently had. Perfect score for me. 10/10

I watched the first two shorts on the Pierre Etaix set and I'm already in love. I was going to watch Belle de Jour tonight, but I think I'll just continue through this set instead. I love the blend of laugh out loud humor with the melancholy-like score in Rupture. I'm not typically taken by short films, and I've probably only seen in the ballpark of 20 in my life, but this takes the cake as the best I've ever seen.

I also visited Etaix's Wikipedia page to see what he had done that wasn't included in the set, and I was surprised to see that he had a small part in Le Havre.

Days of Heaven, to me, is Malick's best film. Just as beautiful as The Thin Red Line, but I think it's more accessible given it's shorter running time.

In a way it feels like reccomending Brief Encounter over Lawrence of Arabia.

If Malick ever did a science fiction film, it would probably be the greatest sci fi film ever made. One can only dream.

... Like his mentor, Jacques Tati (for whom Mr. Étaix worked as a sketch artist and assistant director), he presents a comic persona that is remote and a bit chilly. ...

You can see his name in the credits of at least one Tati.

edit: the site mangles links to The N.Y. Times. You may be able to find the article by searching for its title, "The Dark Side of Innocence," written by none other than Dave Kehr and published April 26, 2013.
