Woo! Just got home from work with a package from amazon on my doorstep.

My criterion collection has grown with the additions of 8 1/2 and Videodrome. Two movies I really wanted to see for some reason.

I think it's gonna take a while for me to get in the mood to watch 8 1/2 because I've heard it's very Lynch-like? Anyone else agree?

It's weird. Scanners (save the head exploding) never did much for me

I would be very excited for the other two, though. They will instantly transport me back to that lovely 'Summer of Horror' I had Sophomore year. My daily schedule consisted of Calculus II lectures, homework, two or three horror films, and about two hours of reading Horror genre analysis books. Ahhhh

Any recommendations? I love horror.

Also hoping for (not just for October but in general) The Dreamers and Cronenberg's Crash.

I would not compare it to Lynch's films off the top of my head, but 8 1/2 is a wondrously bewildering work of cinema where the cumulative impact of the scenes is oddly affecting on an emotional level. It's a good "mid-life crisis" sort of film where the protagonist is stuck at an impasse with creativity and life in general.

One need not think about such things when watching the movie, though. It's worth seeing just to look at Claudia Cardinale and Barbara Steele.

It has literally been forever. I'm not as big of a horror nut anymore....Although, I am currently reading Midnight Movies by J. Hoberman and Job Rosenbaum (which touches on El Topo, Night of the Living Dead & Eraserhead). It's a fantastic book, but just note it's more about underground screenings, cults, Andy Warhol's The Factory, etc.

Thanks so much! It sounds very thought provoking. I love films that make me think and I've heard it's shot beautifully.

I remember reading a couple director's top 10 films and I remember seeing this show up a lot.

I misread the previous. I thought he'd also mentioned Rabid. Yes, that's the dream set.

Shivers, Rabid, The Brood, Scanners

I thought it was great. There's so much passion up on the screen in that movie.

Since Universal is releasing Charade does that mean that it may go OOP soon for Criterion?

I haven't read anything about To The Wonder because with Malick I like to go in fresh so I have no clue what to expect which is how I want it. Today a couple of my coworkers were talking about it and they said that it is in French. I was taken by surprise so I quickly hopped on IMDB and under languages this is what I got "English | French | Spanish | Italian | Sign Languages". I just guessed I assumed it was in English.

It actually took me a minute to remember what languages were spoken at all.

There isn't a ton of dialogue, but there's a fitting balance between all those languages, their presence makes sense.

I feel like I've brought up the fact that Criterion needs to release this tons of times. I would be elated.

Are you able to watch it in 3D? The only time I've ever used my Dad's 3D TV.
