Yes, but with the B&N sales, it straight-up wouldn't give you the discount with any pre-ordered discs if they were released past the dates of the sale.

With the Criterion 'AFS' discount, all products are honoring the discount no matter what the release date is. So, I imagine that if Criterion is willing to let you go through the entire checkout process with the discount applied they're not going to declare the discount null-n-void when the units are actually shipped.

Thanks to the Cleveland Cinematheque for the code.
Nice find! First, it was the Austin Film Society and now the Cleveland Cinematheque.

Yep. It came in the Cinematheque's newsletter. They said to use code to get 25% off the AK box and a donation would be made to Cinematheque, too. However, it works for any item!

I think that was the same thing mentioned for the Austin Film Society... to use it for the AK boxset.

I ordered all April/May/June titles + some OOP titles with the AFS code.

I spent $522.84.

But (and correct me if I'm wrong) B&N won't accept a 50% off order for an item that hasn't released, so it's not that they don't honor it, they just don't accept the order in the first place.
Plenty of people are saying that Criterion have accepted orders for April/May/June title with 25% off applied.

Thanks to the Cleveland Cinematheque for the code.
You the man! Is this code new? Can we expect it to last at least through April?

Default Yojimbo/Sanjuro Set Packaging Question

I have a quick question re: the packaging of this set:

Are the two full-sized cases available individually included in a larger cardboard box or are the discs included within a set-exclusive slimmer package?

Thanks for all of your help.

The discs included are regular sized, not slimmer.

This is from Cleveland Cinematheque's blog...

Quote:
Celebrate Kurosawa centenary with new restoration of his 1950 RASHOMON
Akira Kurosawa’s 1950 Japanese masterpiece RASHOMON is set in 12th-century Kyoto, where four witnesses to a rape/murder give contradictory testimony about the incident. Truth is a slippery thing in this celebrated classic that always turns up on lists of the 100 best films of all time, and also introduced postwar Japanese cinema to the West. Toshiro Mifune, Machiko Kyo, Masayuki Mori, and Takashi Shimura star in the movie, which is being shown on Thursday and Saturday in a newly restored 35mm print in honor of Kurosawa’s centennial year (he was born on 3/23/1910). Also in honor of Kurosawa’s centenary, the Criterion Collection has created a gorgeous collector’s set “AK 100: 25 Films by Akira Kurosawa.” For a limited time, you can purchase this DVD box set for a substantial discount and support the Cinematheque in the process. Just buy “AK 100″ at http://www.criterion.com http://www.criterion.com/, enter the code CINE at the prompt, and you’ll not only save 25% off the retail price of $399.95, you’ll be making a $25 contribution to the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque! This deluxe, linen-bound set includes timeless masterpieces from one of cinema’s greatest directors — not only “Rashomon” but also “Ikiru,” “Seven Samurai,” “Yojimbo,” and “High and Low.” Featuring 25 of the films Kurosawa made over the course of his 50 years in movies—from samurai epics to postwar noirs to Shakespeare adaptations—”AK 100″ is the most complete set of his works ever released in this country, and includes four rare films that have never been available on DVD. Once again, to take advantage of this special offer, shop at criterion.com, enter the code CINE at checkout, and pay only $299.95 for the “AK” box set. Criterion will send $25 to the Cinematheque. Thanks!
Obviously, we know the code will work for other products, as well, but I don't believe I see an expiration date in there.

So just so I can be sure... you are saying that both discs+cases that you can purchase individually are the ones included in the boxset?

I have the box set, so I can't say for sure, but I would assume they are the same cases.

Wow... An order like that is what I really need to get up to speed with the current releases. Then I can start buying each month's releases as they come out.

It's just hard for me to justify spending $500+ on Blu-rays at once.

Hmmmm, was the "AFS" code only meant for the AK100 box too?
I know the Criterion site has been accepting it for all items, but could they turn around and say it was a glitch and should have only been for that sole item??
Although this has got to make a lot of financial sense for Criterion, even giving the 25% discount, they're getting every penny from every sale direct from their site. Really they should try to keep this up, and maybe instead of actually undercutting all retailers they'll continue to mask it with discount codes they change once a month or so.

Too bad the charges from Criterion are so high to send to Canada, it's not worth the effort to order from them, I might as just wait for a sale from Amazon or B&N

Has someone tried putting both codes in to get 50% off?

Edit: Nevermind, I tried and it doesn't work.
