Nice little haul. I actually enjoyed Band of Outsiders. It was a lot lighter than Vivre Sa Vie, but I can't speak for the others.

I noticed you don't have The 400 Blows, Days Of Heaven, Diabolique, The Killing, Traffic, or the Chaplin films? Do you not like them? I'm not trying to pry because everybody has their own tastes, but I just feel that those are some of the better ones in the Collection.

Days of Heaven is on my list above, I'll definitely get it this sale.

Traffic, The Killing and the Chaplin films don't really appeal to me, so they're really low on my list..

I forgot about The 400 Blows, I still haven't seen it and eventually should.

Diabolique is the one title I've very nearly bought every sale and have always put back. I do want it so it's a possibility. I do like it, but don't really love it enough to have jumped on it.

Thanks for the suggestions

I think these are the titles I'm going to buy:
-Safety Last!
-Wages of Fear
-The Devil's Backbone (if included)

-Wings of Desire (maybe... not so sure)
-The 400 Blows (again, maybe. For my sister for christmas. There might be a better sale after this though)

I think I'm also going to sell my MoC Repo Man and Island of Lost Souls steelbook's and just get the Criterion releases. I'm fine with losing the Repo Man steel but the Island of Lost Souls steel is just utterly gorgeous... Kinda hurts to be letting go of that lol

Haven't got a lot of money to play with though and I'm a bit sick of having multiple copies of things. I've been telling myself that I'm only hanging onto the MoC release because it has special features not on the Criterion release, but I know that if the steel didn't exist, I would have no problem getting rid of the standard version for Criterion's. Can't be so superficial when these things aren't cheap.

As it turns out, I'm so wired after watching Charade for the first time that I'm not sleepy anymore. What a great film!

I kept hearing about flaws with the video presentation of Charade, but the Blu-ray looks superb to my eyes.

I'm looking forward to swinging by Barnes & Noble after work for my above haul.

I'll buy Lord of the Flies next week after payday.

I keep putting this off, because...
1. I'll have to shell out for the plastic replacement case.
2. I'm holding out for a future announcement of the whole movie series box set.

I might jump the gun this time, depending on cash flow later in July, but it's a tough call. I really loved watching my old DVD copy of this film.

I have a crazy hunch you would like 'Wings of Desire' more than any of the others listed.

Not a problem! I didn't even pay attention that Days of Heaven was there, sorry!

I'm not gonna lie to you, I honestly wasn't really interested in any of those films at first but once I saw them I loved them.

The 400 Blows is a pretty good character study of a boy left without much attention. He turns to petty crime among other things in the process of basically filling his void. It went by pretty quickly, to be honest. The Chaplin Films seemed like they would be stale humor originally because I've never been a silent film kind of guy, but my stomach literally hurt with laughter. I enjoyed them a lot more than Harold Lloyd and Safety Last. I can't speak for Buster Keaton because I haven't seen any of his films, but I'm going to say that I enjoy Chaplin the most, even though my favorite silent film is Lonesome. Diabolique was a little hard for me to initially get into but once I started watching it, it drew on my tremendously. One of the best thrillers I have ever seen. The Killing may be my favorite film-noir next to Night of the Hunter and it's definitely one of Kubrick's best. From what I've seen from Kubrick, I enjoy these older films of his a lot more than some of his more popular ones. I didn't like Paths of Glory nor Fear and Desire, but this one is definitely rewarding and exciting. Lastly, Traffic is the most iffy one because it's a love / hate type of film. It's a good commentary on America's war on drugs as told from numerous perspectives. It's pretty neat even though it's a little long!

Wings of Desire is sooooooooooo slow. You need to have a lot of patience to stay into that film.

Act 1 started off great for me, but by the time Act 2 came rolling in, I was ready for it to end. As a whole, it was a pretty good movie, but definitely not something I'd ever want to watch again any time soon.

gonna get the Royal Tenenbaums and A Band of Outsiders for sure. And then gonna get one or two more probably. I'm currently deciding between Fish Tank, Bottle Rocket, Darjeeling Limited, Rosemary's Baby, Badlands, Repo Man, The Devil's Backbone, The Rules of The Game, Certified Copy and On The Waterfront

The Force is strong with this one.

Safety Last! is brilliant. I saw it for the first time a couple weeks ago, and it really knocked me on my tail with its comedic pacing that is still more effective than most anything today.

I've harped on The Wages of Fear a lot on this forum, but still not enough. It's one of the most tension-filled adventure movies in history.

Wings of Desire is a beautiful film that is haunting and uplifting at the same time. The soundtrack is ace.

I'd definitely say Fish Tank and then either Badlands or On The Waterfront. Both of those titles are great! Hell, most of the films you listed are great, but those are just my favorites.

I just got around to The 400 Blows for the first time recently. It was maybe the single biggest blind spot in my movie viewing, seeing as how I've near exhausted the filmographies of the other New Wave guys. But for some reason Truffaut from that bunch had never done much for me. Man I wish I hadn't waited so long! Just a wonderful film, its classic status completely earned. I only watched the DVD (from the Antoine Doinel box; hope to get to the others soon), but I imagine it absolutely sparkles in high def, the photography is stunning.

Safety Last! will probably be the first I watch from my haul. The screenshots I've seen from the Blu are awe-inspiring; it's so cool Harold Lloyd had the foresight to preserve his films in the manner he did and that it left such wonderful materials for these companies to work with today.

This is my first B&N sale. It states on the site that the entire criterion library is half off. but when i add them to my cart it is still showing full price. Do they take the 50% off during checkout?

It looks like the kind of movie I could either love or not enjoy a lot. I'm not a religious person and movies that come off very pro-christian. just irritate me. Wim Wenders' Paris, Texas is one of my favourites from the collection though and I can't imagine him being preachy or making that type of film, even if the focus is on an angel.

The story sounds great to be honest, but if I'm going to sit through a movie that clearly feels like it was made by someone passionate about god and their religious beliefs, I'll probably hate it. I respect others beliefs but that's not for me.

That's why I've been putting it off because I'm not sure what to expect...

It's definitely not a preachy, or even religious film. Buy with confidence.

Are you a fan of Nick Cave by the way? If so, this film has a scene that will absolutely floor you.

It's not a religious film. They're just guardian angels who watch everybody in the city all day long. One yearns to become a human, while the other one doesn't necessarily want to give up his wings to do that.

I think the coolest thing about the film is the color schemes. Wenders changes the coloring from black and white in the angel world to color in the human world.

It was two+ hours of long dialogue so if you're patient, you may find it very rewarding.
