I'll get around to upgrading my old DVD of Robinson Crusoe on Mars someday. I love 1950s and 1960s sci-fi movies. There was just something so earnest about those flicks, and I always enjoy how science and religion go hand in hand in a low-key way.

Before the sale in November, I had zero criterion's on blu-ray. Now I have 29 (my age) Rule 1, as we all know is you have to have more Criterion's than your age.

Badlands
Belle de jour
Blow Out
Brazil
Breathless
Broadcast News
Chungking Express
Cronos
Days of Heaven
The Double Life of Veronique
The Game
The Killing
Last Year at Marienbad
Naked Lunch
The Night of the Hunter
On the Waterfront
Paris, Texas
Paths of Glory
Rashômon
Repo Man
Repulsion
Ride with the Devil
Rosemary's Baby
Seven Samurai
The Thin Red Line
Three Colors Trilogy
The Wages of Fear
Walkabout
Wings of Desire

Essential's missing? yea. 12 angry men. But nothing really jumps out at me for this sale. Any suggestions?

There is a dude on Ebay trying to sell a sealed copy of the original 1998 Criterion version Salo for $799, that is an easy to obtain title now (updated with a better PQ and extras)

nobody in their right mind will by 800 bucks for a Criterion

Most of the CC stuff on my wishlist is still far away and not eligible for the sale price.
Lord of the Flies is also 50% for pre order

My of my stuff still wasn't at the 50% off mark, so I'll pick it all up in stores today. I did however place an order for Lord of the Flies, Babette's Feast, and Jeanne Dielman, which were all marked down already.

There are plenty of Criterion collectors who are not in their right mind, so this guy might get lucky.

All I know is that I watched the Criterion Blu-ray of Charade last night, and fell head over heels in love with the movie.

Here is my hastily-written Charade review from last night.

It's tough to write about this movie without spoiling everything for everybody, so I had to work around that.

I thought that the Criterion Blu-ray looked incredible. There's a rooftop fight sequence that shows astonishing detail of the area below. There's a boat ride with Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant that looks wondrous in high definition. Finally, a city park sequence looks amazingly colorful.
I did not notice any shortcomings whatsoever with Criterion's presentation.

This is of little consequence with respect to the actual movie, but the Criterion cover art of Charade for the win.

Maybe you should hold off until reviews for the Universal version come in. It may prove to be every bit an equal to the Criterion version.

Well, since The Devil's Backbone is not part of the sale, I'll buy just four:

Kiss me Deadly
Wild Strawberries
Marketa Lazarova
The Life of Oharu.

I did not notice any color pulsations or anything of the sort while watching the Criterion Blu-ray of Charade. The movie looked downright perfect to me, considering its age.

also Maurice Binders's (many a Bond 007 film) title sequence is an all-time classic, it has a Saul Bass look to it!
also it has a great Henry Mancini score.

how such a classic as Charade fell into the public domain is beyond me?

I love my Criterion blu of the film!

I'm looking forward to reading other people's thoughts on Marketa Lazarová.

I hope that the movie warps the rest of you as much as it warped me. It's a great "unsung hero" of this year's Criterion lineup, just as Letter Never Sent was in 2012.

Agreed. The title sequence is ace, and I knew that I was in for a fine movie when this played out.

I'm also looking forward to see it! Is looks so intriguing and people have nothing but praise to say about it that I hope it'll be a wonderful experience when it arrives!
