I even have the original soundtrack on vinyl (original 63' pressing!)

(I'm sure few of us Criterion lovers like (and collect) vinyl as well!)

Price wise it could be more convenient, but, whenever possible I always go with the Criterion edition without hesitation. I really doubt that the Universal BD will be superior to the Criterion one.

50% off doesn't apply to preorders. It never has.

When TDB comes out it will fall under the sale and be discounted.

The problem is that it won't because TDB will be released on July 30 and the sales ends the 29. So I guess I'll have to wait until the Nov. sale (or an Amazon random sale) to have it.

how such a classic as Charade fell into the public domain is beyond me?

I love my Criterion blu of the film!

I firmly believe Charade is one of the more underrated, little-discussed films in the Criterion Collection. Personally, I love it. Cary, Audrey, that score, the opening sequence, the Hitchcockian narrative -- it all comes together so well.

As for it falling into the public domain, well, you can tick that up to Universal forgetting to place a proper copyright logo on it. Whoops!

I'll happily pay more for better A/V quality... i'm not getting my hopes high... but i'm curious to know.

Oh crap, my bad. I thought it comes out on the 23rd. In that case The Devil's Backbone will indeed miss the sale.

Thanks! I really wasn't sure if I should get Heaven's Gate, but decided to anyways. I've heard it's an interesting failure by some, which is always interesting.

First time I ran into someone else at one of these things. Luckily she didn't grab anything that I needed.

Don't forget, Criterion usually has a FLASH SALE sometime in September, or at least for the past couple years.

Okay I'm going to get the following during this sale I think:
-The Wages of Fear
-Safety Last!
-Wings of Desire

I'm going to try and sell my MoC steelbook's of Repo Man and Island of Lost Souls to replace them with the criterion releases aswel.

AND! I've surprised myself by actually considering getting Marketa Lazarová... Not sure though.

I already have my movies reserved for me there.

(The Gold Rush, Modern Times, The Great Dictator, Yojimbo/Sanjuro, Island of Lost Souls)

I'm upgrading three Chaplin Criterions, but am putting off a purchase of Monsieur Verdoux for another month. There's plenty of time, and I don't want to get so many eggs at the same time that I have trouble keeping track of the chickens later on.

Heh, that's a good way of putting it. There's nothing coming out during the sale that I want, thankfully. The only film I wanted that wasn't there was The Man Who Knew Too Much. Gonna have to go to another B&N.

Crap, I forgot to look for that one. That's what I get for going in without a list.

I decided to limit myself to four Criterions BDs in this sale since I bought 11 Criterion titles on the Amazon sale. However, The Devil's Backbone was part of my purchases but since it won't be on sale, I chose Kiss Me Deadly but now I'm reading lots of positive things about Charade and now I'm debating which one to get.

This three are definite purchases:

Marketa Lazarova
The Life of Oharu
Wild Strawberries

But between Kiss Me Deadly and Charade, which one??

I only ordered Things to Come and Richard III on this round. May go "in store" in the next couples weeks to get Lord of the Flies, Ice Storm and Babette's Feast.

I don't consider Heavens Gate a failure at all. In fact, I think it's one of the best films in the collection.

Note: it may take a second viewing to appreciate its start-stop pacing.
