LOL I have around $450 worth of merchandise between the tabs I have open now. And I have to cut that down by 60%-70% .... so tough.

I need your opinion... between these 3 foreign films - which one do you think is the best.

Fellini's 8½
Breathless
Summer Interlude
8 1/2. At over 2:10 of amazing sights and sounds, it gives you the most bang for your buck.

Godard's Band of Outsiders is probably more accessible than Breathless.

I agree it's a difficult pick... I wanted to watch these first on Blu-ray... don't know if any of the 3 are available on Hulu.

Kiss Me Deadly
Gomorrah

Thanks to all of you. Your helpful input is much appreciated.

I'm terrible at that. I usually say 'get them all' and then suggest three more.

Well, for the record, here's the tabs I have open.

America Lost and Found: The BBS Story - $62.49
The Battle of Algiers - $24.99
Breathless - $19.99
David Lean Directs Noel Coward - $49.99
Gomorrah - $19.99
Heaven's Gate - $24.99
Hunger - $19.99
La Haine - $19.99
Letter Never Sent -$14.99
Naked Lunch - $19.99
The Night of the Hunter - $24.99
On the Waterfront - $24.99
Revanche - $19.99
Rosemary's Baby - $19.99
The Rules of the Game - $19.99
Solaris - $19.99
Traffic - $19.99
The Wages of Fear - $19.99

Total: $447.32

Yeah, I have to cut that down to around a third of that ($150 or so).

Heaven's Gate is set in stone. I know some of the others are more "important" or "artistic" or "historical," but I don't care. The rest are in the air for me.

If anyone has a line on if any of these will be going OOP soon, then perhaps they could let me know, and that would help me decide.

Well, it wasn't part of the B&N sale, but I just got "Shock Corridor" in the mail this morning and I just ordered "Tokyo Drifter" ($19.99 as well). It was a sudden urge this morning because I couldn't get that song out of my head to save my life.

For what it's worth, I'd recommend Hunger, Breathless, Solaris, and Revanche the most.

For me, personally, I try to get the newer titles I want first. Often times the older titles can be found for lower prices throughout the year, so they are usually a bit lower on my list of items to get during the sale.

Pretty maids all in a row...

I had The Gold Rush, Modern Times, The Great Dictator, Island of Lost Souls, and Yojimbo/Sanjuro reserved, then I bought M and Black Narcissus from the shelf. $147 total.

All of these are upgrades from my old DVD collection, with the exception of one blind-buy, Black Narcissus.
Black Narcissus is the wild card of this haul, but I've been intrigued about it for years, and the screenshots of this Technicolor film on the main review were the deciding factor.

Man, decisions decisions.
8 1/2 all the way! Its one of those films that takes a couple watches to fully appreciate but man is it great.
The other two films are indeed on Hulu plus FYI.

I've done quite a lot of homework on Black Narcissus over the years, but a fun review on the Ain't It Cool News site last year really got me thinking about it. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision from earlier today, though, because I thought about the movie, then looked at the screenshots on this site.

I figured that, since the rest of my haul today consists of black-and-white films, I might do well to stick a Technicolor epic in the middle.

Agreed. It ranks high among Powell and Pressburger's finest visual achievements.

Also, keep on the lookout for A Matter of Life and Death on channels like TCM.

Of the recent movies on Criterion, as in movies released over the past ten years, Revanche wins the gold star.

I really love Revanche, but you know all too well of my undying love for Solaris. There's reccomending a movie, then there's Reccomending! a movie.
